Sirens: Assault with Orbeez gel balls; unwanted sexual contact; two suspects flee with large amount of merchandise; paraphernalia found in ‘suspicious’ vehicle

Centralia Police Department

Attempted burglary

• An unknown suspect attempted to break into a storage shed on private property in the 1100 block of Caveness Drive, according to a report at 9:41 a.m. Aug. 12.  The victim reported that the lock to the shed had been damaged in the attempt to enter.

 

Theft

• At 1:16 p.m. Aug. 12 in the 1300 block of Lum Road, there was a report of a theft that had just occurred. Two male suspects reportedly entered an outlet store and fled on foot with a large amount of stolen merchandise. The suspects left the scene in a dark blue SUV prior to the incident being reported to police. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. This case is currently under investigation.

• A fuel card was reported stolen from a local business in the 1500 block of Kresky Avenue at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 12. This case is under investigation.

• A 43-year-old Rochester woman was arrested for third-degree theft and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail just after 3:42 p.m. Aug. 12 in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue.

• A temporary license plate that was affixed to a vehicle was reported stolen at an unknown time overnight. The report was made from the 600 block of Hamilton Avenue just after midnight on Aug. 13.

• At 1:44 p.m. on Aug. 13, a credit card was reported stolen from the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road. The suspect reportedly used the victim’s credit card at various businesses after stealing it. This case is currently under investigation.

• A juvenile was arrested after damaging property in a residence in the 1300 block of Reynolds Avenue sometime before 8:41 p.m. Aug. 13.

• At about 10:32 p.m. Aug. 13, a victim in the 900 block of Old Airport Way reported his bicycle and coins were stolen while he was at work. There is no suspect information at this time.

 

Paraphernalia found in ‘suspicious’ vehicle

• At 5:13 p.m. Aug. 12, officers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle that was left in a parking lot in the 600 block of South Tower Avenue. Upon examination of the vehicle, the rear license plate was determined to be stolen and the front license plate returned to another vehicle. Drug paraphernalia was visible inside the vehicle from the exterior of the vehicle. Officers obtained a search warrant to retrieve the drug paraphernalia and identify the vehicle, as the VIN was covered up or removed. Suspect information is known and further investigation is being conducted.

 

Assault with Orbeez gel balls

• At 6 p.m. Aug. 12, officers responded to the report of children being struck by pellets or Orbeez-type gel balls while sitting outside a restaurant in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue. Possible suspect information has been obtained and further investigation is being conducted.

 

Malicious mischief

• Clinton M. Kincade, 20, of Aberdeen, was arrested after taking a cellphone from another individual and breaking it. The alleged crime was reported at 6:34 p.m. Aug. 12 in the 1300 block of Rhobina Street.

• A juvenile was referred to the prosecutor for potential charges after breaking a door and bathroom cabinet in the 1300 block of Reynolds Avenue sometime before 9:21 p.m. Aug. 12.

 

Unwanted sexual contact

• At about 9:10 p.m. Aug. 12 at the intersection of West Center Street and North Pearl Street, Manuel D.J. Zavala-Martinez, 39, of Centralia, was arrested after being accused of continuously touching an acquaintance in a sexual manner after being told numerous times to stop. The encounter resulted in a physical altercation Zavala-Martinez allegedly struck the other person with a stick, causing potential serious injury.

 

Hit-and-run arrest

• Tony A. Watson, 66, of Chehalis, was issued a criminal citation for hit-and-run at about 10 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue.

 

Drugs

• Brenten D. Vlayka, 42, of Rochester, was referred to Centralia Municipal Court for unlawful possession of a controlled substance after being contacted by officers in the 600 block of South Diamond Street at about 3:27 a.m. Aug. 14.

 

Vehicle prowl

• At about 7:05 a.m. Aug. 14 in the 300 block of North Tower Avenue, Jaime M. Granados, 31, of Virginia, was arrested for attempted vehicle theft. Granados was located inside of the victim’s vehicle tampering with the ignition and wiring. Granados stole an energy drink from the vehicle and was consuming it when officers contacted him. While officers were searching Granados, a glass pipe fell to the ground with suspected drug residue. Granados stepped on the pipe and broke it.

 



Chehalis Police Department

Disorderly conduct

• A man was reportedly yelling loudly in a parking lot at about 9:51 a.m. Aug. 12 in the 600 block of West Main Street.

• A man wearing a black mask and potentially one other individual were reported for recording customers as they picked up medications and in the parking lot of a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at about 4 p.m. Aug. 12. One of the individuals reportedly said “they were freedom fighters and it’s their rights” when asked what they were doing. A caller reported they were yelling and being aggressive at times.

 

Harassment

• Two juveniles with a microphone and camera entered a store in the 900 block of Northwest State Avenue twice on the morning of Aug. 12 “harassing” employees and accusing them of being involved in human trafficking.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in a parking lot in the 700 block of South Market Boulevard at about 12:26 p.m. Aug. 12. After noting surveillance footage would be obtained, a caller later notified authorities the perpetrator had been found and the matter would be settled through insurance. The caller requested that no charges be filed.

 

Theft

• A caller reported that a phone, wallet and keys were stolen from a vehicle in Bucoda before the vehicle was dropped off in a parking lot in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue. The report was made at about 1:50 p.m. Aug. 12.

 

Suspicious person

• A suspicious person was reported at about 2:05 p.m. Aug. 12 in the 1200 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue. The case is under investigation. No other information was provided.

• An individual wearing a face covering was reportedly trying to record patients through windows in the 10 block of Southwest 13th Street at about 3 p.m. Aug. 12. An employee asked that the individual be trespassed from the property if located.

• A caller reported seeing furniture in disarray and blood inside a home in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at about 3:20 p.m. Aug. 12. Management later advised the blood was from a dog that was found dead in the residence and that the resident was being placed in new housing.

• A man was reported for allegedly recording video footage through windows in the 900 block of South Market Boulevard at about 3:22 p.m. Aug. 12. A similar report was made a short time later in the 600 block of South Market Boulevard.

 

Attempted burglary

• An attempted burglary was reported at a building in the 600 block of North National Avenue at about 3 p.m. Aug. 12. A caller reported that an individual was seen on surveillance camera attempting to access the building with a screwdriver but did not get in the building.

 

Stolen vehicle

• A Hyundai was reported stolen from a residence in the 10 block of Southwest First Street at 8:23 p.m. Aug. 12.

 

Vehicle prowl

• A caller reported seeing a man wearing her brother’s hat at Southwest Third Street and Southwest Cascade Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Aug. 13. The hat had previously been stolen during a vehicle prowl. The man claimed he has had the hat for a long time when confronted by the caller’s brother.

 

Jail Statistics

Lewis County Jail

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 144 inmates, including 131 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 101 were male and 30 were female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were male and two were female.
