Sirens: Child abuse or neglect; Man kicks medical staffer; 'Trying to pick a fight'; Stolen bike, wallet returned

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Unattended child 

• A 5-year-old child was found unattended in the 800 block of K Street just after 11:20 a.m. on July 24. The child was reunited with their family during the investigation. The case has been forwarded to Child Protective Services. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A juvenile was apprehended by a bystander for attempting to steal alcoholic beverages from a business in the 2300 block of North Pearl Street at approximately 1 p.m. on July 24. The juvenile was subsequently trespassed from the business.

• A 58-year-old Mossyrock man was trespassed from a business in the 100 block of North Gold Street just before 6:10 p.m. on July 24 after he reportedly failed to comply with the business’ request to stay off the property for one month. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• At approximately 1:35 p.m. on July 24, there was a report that a headstone in a cemetery in the 1100 block of Caveness Drive had been knocked over. 

 

Theft 

• A female suspect reportedly stole a couple hundred dollars worth of groceries from a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 1:40 p.m. on July 24.

• Miscellaneous merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 100 block of West High Street just after 7:55 p.m. on July 24. The case is under investigation.  

 

Vehicle accident 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision that partially blocked the roadway was reported in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at 2:25 p.m. on July 24. 

 

Assault 

• Possible third-degree assault charges against a 54-year-old Centralia man were referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office after the man allegedly kicked a medical staff member in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at 11:25 p.m. on July 24. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Disorderly conduct 

• A man was reportedly “trying to pick a fight” with a male and two children in the 300 block of West Main Street at approximately 8:15 a.m. on July 24. 

• A disorderly male was reportedly threatening to damage vehicles and threatening to stab someone in the 500 block of Southeast Adams just before 12:10 p.m. on July 25. 

 

Theft 

• At 10:05 a.m. on July 24, a vehicle was reported stolen from the 1100 block of Northwest Maryland Drive sometime over the weekend. It was later learned an employee was using the vehicle and it had not been stolen. 

• An attempted vehicle prowl was reported in the 2100 block of Southwest Olympic Drive at approximately 4:15 a.m. on July 25. 

• A case of second-degree theft reported in the 700 block of Northwest New York Avenue just before 8:05 a.m. on July 25 is under investigation. 

• A case of second-degree theft reported in the 1500  block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 1:30 p.m. on July 25 is under investigation. 

• Just before 6:50 p.m. on July 25, a vehicle prowl that occurred the night prior in the 100 block of Northeast Division Street was reported. A pair of binoculars, a range finder and ammunition were reported stolen. 



• A subject was cited for shoplifting clothes from a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. on July 25. 

 

Child abuse or neglect 

• Just after 12:50 p.m. on July 24, there was a report of a woman in a vehicle in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way “hitting her child and screaming and yelling at her.” The vehicle left the scene before officers arrived. 

 

Vehicle accident 

• A non-injury bicycle versus vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Southwest Riverside Drive and state Route 6 just before 5:50 p.m. on July 24. The bike sustained heavy damage but the bicyclist, identified as a 12-year-old male, was uninjured. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 6:40 p.m. on July 24 is under investigation. 

 

Disputes 

• A dispute was reported at the intersection of Southwest 12th Street and South Market Boulevard just after 8:20 p.m. on July 24. 

• A dispute was reported in the 400 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue at 10:55 p.m. on July 25. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• A juvenile reportedly took a bike that had a wallet on it in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street at approximately 9:20 p.m. on July 24. The bicycle and wallet were returned by 9:56 p.m. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• Three subjects were trespassed from the area under a bridge at the intersection of Southwest Riverside Drive and state Route 6 just before 1:55 a.m. on July 25. 

• A male who was looking through car windows in the 1100 block of South Maret Boulevard at 11:50 p.m. on July 25 was trespassed from the property. 

 

Assault 

• A case of second-degree assault reported in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street just after 12:30 p.m. on July 25 is under investigation. 

 

Death investigation 

• A death reported in the 1600 block of Southwest Gails Avenue just after 2:20 a.m. on July 26 is under investigation. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 161 inmates, including 148 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 119 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
