Sirens: Child Found; Walking in Traffic Leads to Arrest; Catalytic Converter Thefts; Rape Investigation

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Vehicle Accidents

• A two-vehicle collision was reported in the 2000 block of North Pearl Street just before 11:50 a.m. on July 2.

• A bicyclist received minor injuries after colliding with a vehicle in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 4:40 p.m. on June 3.

 

DUI

• Garry W. Worthey, 62, of Chehalis, was arrested in the 1600 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. on July 2 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence.

• Daniel R. Griffin, 36, of Ridgefield, was arrested at the intersection of South Gold Street and Hickory Street at 11:35 p.m. on July 2 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence.

 

Catalytic Converter Theft

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from the 900 block of South Silver Street just after 2:35 a.m. on July 3.

• Just after 2:30 p.m. on July 5, a catalytic converter was reported stolen from the 700 block of Hamilton Avenue sometime within the last month.

 

Other Theft

• Fishing equipment was reported stolen from a shed in the 2400 block of Leisure Lane just after 10:45 a.m. on July 2.

• Unattended cash was reported stolen from an ATM in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 12:05 p.m. on July 2. The case is under investigation.

 

Assault

• A Centralia man was issued a court summons for a fourth-degree assault charge following a dispute in the 400 block of North Ashton Street just after 12:35 p.m. on July 4.

• A Centralia man was arrested in the 1700 block of North Pearl Street just after 6:35 p.m. on July 5 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged second-degree assault, domestic violence.

 

Retail Theft

• Items were reported stolen from a business in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue just before 3:45 p.m. on July 4.

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at 4:45 p.m. on July 5.

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 7:10 p.m. on July 5.

• An Olympia woman was arrested just after 7:45 p.m. on July 5 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail on eluding, possession of stolen property, theft and possession of another’s identification charges after she allegedly fled from police at high rates of speed when an officer attempted to stop her for stealing from a store in the 100 block of Harrison Avenue. An Olympia man was arrested and booked into the jail on an outstanding warrant during the same incident. The man was additionally cited for third-degree theft.

 

Walking in Traffic

• A Tenino man was arrested at the intersection of North Pearl and West Main streets just after 3:40 p.m. on July 5 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for disorderly conduct after he allegedly walked in the center of the roadway, “causing traffic to have to swerve to miss him.”

 

Malicious Mischief

• At approximately 8:05 a.m. on July 6, damage to a parked vehicle in the 3600 block of Galvin Road that occurred sometime over the weekend was reported.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Found Child

• A caller reported finding an unattended 1-year-old in the 600 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just before 10 a.m. on July 1.

 

Vehicle Theft

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the 800 block of West Main Street at 3:10 p.m. on July 1.

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the 1200 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at approximately 12:55 a.m. on July 3.

 

Retail Theft

• A subject riding a BMX bike and wearing “(a) light blue shirt, khaki pants (and a) backpack with (an) American flag sticking out” reportedly stole a pair of boots from a business in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just after 2:50 p.m. on July 1. No arrests were made.



• An attempted shoplift was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. on July 4.

• An attempted shoplift was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. on July 5.

• A man was arrested in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. on July 5 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged second-degree theft.

 

Other Theft

• Just after midnight on July 3, a business in the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue reported an intoxicated couple left without paying their $66.25 tab.

• A case of second-degree theft reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:40 p.m. on July 3 is under investigation.

• A theft reported in the 600 block of West Main Street just after 11:25 a.m. on July 4 is under investigation.

• A second-degree theft reported in the 2000 block of Southwest Salsbury Avenue just before 4:35 p.m. on July 5 is under investigation.

 

Fraud

• Counterfeit money was reported at a business in the 600 block of North National Avenue just after 4:10 p.m. on July 5.

 

Attempted Burglary

• At 10:25 a.m. on July 3, a caller in the 1700 block of South Market Boulevard reported that someone broke into his neighbor’s house.

 

Vehicle Accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 4:25 p.m. on July 1.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported at the intersection of state Route 6 and Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 2:10 p.m. on July 2.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 11:20 a.m. on July 4.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported at 6:25 p.m. on July 4.

Juvenile Problems

• A group of five juveniles reportedly threw “a rubber glove filled with water” at a residential doorway in the 200 block of Southwest First Street just after 7:10 p.m. on July 2.

• A group of four juveniles reportedly climbed on and in box cars in the 100 block of Southwest Veterans Way just after 8:45 p.m. on July 2. Officers contacted the youths as they were leaving. No arrests were made.

 

Public Works Issue

• A “public works” case reported in the 600 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 4:50 p.m. on July 3 is under investigation.

 

Vicious Dog

• Just before 10:15 p.m. on July 3, a caller in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue reported a black dog that was loose in the area bit him 15 to 20 minutes prior.

 

Rape Investigation

• A case of rape reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 8:20 p.m. on July 4 is under investigation.

 

Suspicious Circumstances

• A man and a woman “with a machete and clippers” were trespassed from a property in the 800 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just before 5:30 p.m. on July 5.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 152 inmates, including 133 in the general population and 19 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 110 were reported male and 23 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 16 were reported male and three were reported female.
