Sirens: Dogs in hot cars; scammer claims to be deputy; student assaults teacher; baseball bat used in robbery

Dogs in cars

• At approximately 11:25 a.m. on June 6, a citizen in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported a small dog was inside a cage in a vehicle with the windows barely cracked. The caller didn’t see any water in the cage with the dog.

• A dog was reported inside a car with the windows closed in the 500 block of West Main Street just after 4:05 p.m. on June 6. An officer contacted the dog’s owner, who opened the windows.

 

Theft

• Just after 12:35 p.m. on June 6, a citizen in the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue reported her enhanced driver’s license was among the pieces of mail stolen from the Chehalis Post Office on May 28.

• Identity theft was reported in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way just after 1:10 p.m. on June 6.

• About $170 of personal electronic items were reported stolen from a business in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 12:55 p.m. on June 7. The female suspect was arrested.

• A vehicle’s rear license plate was reported stolen from the 200 block of Southwest First Street just before 2:25 p.m. on June 7. The theft occurred sometime overnight.

• A woman was cited for stealing $80 to $120 in items from a business in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 2:40 p.m. on June 7.

• A subject was arrested for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 9:45 a.m. on June 8.

• A woman reportedly left a restaurant in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue without paying her $27.45 bill just before 3:10 p.m. on June 9. She was arrested for theft and was trespassed from the business.

• A theft reported in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just before 8:30 p.m. on June 9 is under investigation.   

 

Fraud

• A case of non-specific fraud was reported in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard just before 2:25 p.m. on June 6.

• A man reportedly tried to pass counterfeit money to a clerk at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 8:55 a.m. on June 8.

• A possible phone scam involving a subject claiming to be a Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputy was reported in the 1700 block of Southwest Grandview Avenue at approximately 12:45 p.m. on June 11.

Criminal trespass

• A woman was trespassed from a restaurant in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just before 7:10 p.m. on June 6 for throwing glasses and yelling at an employee about “a steak that wasn’t cooked to her liking.”

• A woman was reportedly trespassing on train tracks at the intersection of West Main Street and Northwest Railroad Avenue at 9:05 p.m. on June 10.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A man was reportedly throwing rocks across the road in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. on June 7. The man told officers “he was practicing with his new rock sling.” He was “advised to find a better spot to practice.”

• A man was reportedly yelling about dumping gas in the field behind a park in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street at approximately 12:05 p.m. on June 9. He was arrested for a drug violation.

• A naked man was reportedly running around in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 2 p.m. on June 11. He later put clothes on and began screaming at customers.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A possible attempted burglary was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 4 a.m. on June 7. The reporting party later determined there was no burglary, rather several juveniles who sometimes stay the night had arrived late.

• Just before 1:15 p.m. on June 7, a citizen in the 1300 block of Bishop Road reported that his ex-girlfriend was texting him threatening messages such as “I know where you live, me and my homies can come find you when you’re sleeping and wake you up.” He was advised to seek a civil protection order.

• A citizen reported he had a 7- to 8-year-old girl hiding in his house in the 1900 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue at 7:10 p.m. on June 7. The citizen reported she went unresponsive after he asked her to get her parents. He then said he turned his head and she was gone. He reportedly told police, “they get into the house and they act like little statues and you don’t even see them.”

• Two men were reportedly trying to get into a vehicle in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just after 7 a.m. on June 8. Officers confirmed the owner locked their keys inside the vehicle and was trying to get the door open.

• At approximately 7:45 a.m. on June 8, a citizen in the 700 block of Northwest St. Helens Avenue reported their neighbors keep putting a trash can on the easement next to their property “that smells really bad,” citing “possible crab legs in the trash.”

• Just after 10:25 p.m. on June 9, a woman in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue reportedly called 911 and was rambling about someone harassing her for sex trafficking and about not being able to find her cats.

• A suspicious man on a bike was reportedly looking into backyards at the intersection of Northwest Pennsylvania Avenue and Northwest St. Helens Avenue at 9:25 a.m. on June 10. An officer contacted the man, who “stated he was just walking and looking around.”



• A homeless man reportedly tried to get into a house in the 200 block of Southwest Fifth Street just before 5:50 p.m. on June 10. He left on foot when he couldn’t get inside, leaving his belongings on the porch.

• A citizen reported a subject almost hit them with a vehicle, chased them around and blocked them in when they parked in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate avenue just before 1:40 p.m. on June 11.

 

Assault

• A student reportedly punched a teacher at a school in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way at 8:50 a.m. on June 7.

 

Green Hill School

• Contraband was reported at Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street just before 2:35 p.m. on June 7.

 

Robbery

• A 14-year-old boy reportedly robbed someone and hit them with a baseball bat in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 8:50 p.m. on June 7. No life-threatening injuries were reported.

 

Sexual misconduct

• A case of sexual misconduct reported in the 2000 block of Southwest Salsbury Avenue at approximately 4:20 p.m. on June 8 is under investigation.

 

Disputes

• A woman reportedly shoved a man during a dispute in the 300 block of Northwest North Street just after 3:40 p.m. on June 10.

• Six boys reportedly confronted another boy in the 500 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at 4 p.m. on June 11. The reporting party was advised to seek a civil protection order.

• Two men and a woman were reportedly involved in a physical dispute in the 1500 block of Southwest Johnson Avenue just after 9:30 p.m. on June 11.

 

Hit-and-run

• Just before 9:45 a.m. on June 11, a hit-and-run that occurred in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue the day prior was reported.

 

Reckless endangerment

• A citizen reported a bullet went through the wall of his residence in the 1400 block of Southwest Mills Avenue just after 11:15 p.m. on June 11. Two adults and two children were inside the home at the time. No injuries were reported. The reporting party said he heard two possible gunshots as well as people yelling. Security footage showed a possible male suspect “putting something in the bushes behind the house.” The suspect was not located at the time of the incident, but a reckless endangerment charge was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 49 illness-related calls, 15 injury-related calls, 10 fire-related calls, eight non-emergency service calls, three vehicle accidents, five Lifeline medical alerts, one ambulance request, one overdose, one suicide-related call and five other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 120 inmates, including 107 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 81 were reported male and 26 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 15 inmates, including 12 booked by the Centralia Police Department, two booked by the state Department of Corrections and one booked by the Lummi Nation.
