Sirens: Driver wields gun, strikes rear of vehicle, escapes; man arrested after exposing himself at public park; phone scam reported

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A homeless Centralia man was trespassed from BNSF property in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street just after 8:10 a.m. on June 23.

• A 37-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1200 block of Alder Street just before 8:40 a.m. on June 23 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for second-degree criminal trespass and knowing possession of a controlled substance.

• Four homeless people who were reportedly going into sheds on a property in the 300 block of West Main Street were trespassed from the property at 11:35 a.m. on June 24.

• A 41-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue just after 1:55 p.m. on June 24 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for first-degree criminal trespass.

• A 29-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 200 block of East Van Buren Street just after 9:10 p.m. on June 24 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for first-degree criminal trespass, knowing possession of meth and resisting arrest.

 

Theft

• A ring was reported stolen from the 1200 block of B Street just after 8:30 a.m. on June 23. The case is under investigation.

• A white 2003 GMC Sierra pickup was reported stolen from the 100 block of South King Street just after 9:15 a.m. on June 23.

• At approximately 10:30 a.m. on June 2, two California ID cards, a debit card and $500 cash were reported stolen out of a backpack that was left behind at a business in the 100 block of West High Street.

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the 700 block of South Tower Avenue just after 8:40 p.m. on June 24. It was later returned to the owner by a family member.

• A group of seven males ordered food at a restaurant in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue and then fled without paying for their meals at about 1:36 p.m. June 25.

 

Malicious mischief

• Just before 2:40 p.m. on June 23, there was a report that a window on a parked vehicle in the 600 block of South Yew Street had been smashed. Nothing was reported stolen from inside the vehicle.

 

Eluding

• At 5:10 p.m. on June 23, police were dispatched to the report of a passenger in a vehicle pointing a firearm at someone traveling in another vehicle at the intersection of North Tower Avenue and West Main Street. An officer located the vehicle a short time later, but the vehicle fled before the officer was able to conduct a traffic stop. Approximately an hour later, police received a report that the same suspect vehicle intentionally rear ended a vehicle. Police located and pursued the suspect vehicle after it failed to stop and drove recklessly in an attempt to flee. Officers lost sight of the vehicle on Interstate 5 north of milepost 82. This case is currently under investigation.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run by a bus that was reported in the 300 block of South Yew Street just after 12:15 p.m. on June 24 is under investigation.

• A hit-and-run reported in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue just after 2:40 p.m. on June 24 is under investigation.

 

Burglary

• A possible burglary to a mobile home in the 200 block of West Oakview Avenue reported just before 4:35 p.m. on June 24 is under investigation.

• Officers received a report on a burglary to a vacant house in the 200 block of West Second Street at about noon on June 25. Officers saw no sign of forced entry. Items taken were water bottles, a Bluetooth speaker and new shower head. No suspect information was available.

 

Indecent Exposure

• Police were dispatched to the report of an adult male exposing himself in a public park at the intersection of Lewis Street and Tilley Avenue at about 4 p.m. June 25. The suspect, Joshua E. Blankenship, 35, of Centralia, was located by police and placed into custody. When searching Blankenship during his arrest, suspected methamphetamine was located. Blankenship was transported and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail on three counts of indecent exposure and one count of knowingly possessing a controlled substance.

 

Assault

• A 56-year-old Centralia man was arrested at about 4:20 p.m. June 25 in the 2500 block of Fords Prairie Avenue. He was transported to Chehalis Tribal Jail and faces a charge of fourth-degree assault for allegedly punching a family member.

• Officers responded to a physical dispute between two females at about 8:20 p.m. June 25 in the 600 block of H Street. Charges were referred to the prosecutor's office for a 19-year-old Centralia woman. The second female was a juvenile and also faces potential charges.

 

No ignition interlock device

• A 58-year-old Centralia man was arrested and released with a citation at the intersection of West Center Street and North Tower Avenue at about 8 p.m. June 25. He faces charges of operating a motor vehicle without an ignition interlock device and third-degree driving with a suspended license.

 

Physical control

• A 22-year-old Centralia man was arrested for physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail. The arrest occurred in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue at about 3 a.m. June 26.

 



CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Crashes

• A two-vehicle non-injury crash was reported at 10:48 a.m. June 25 in the 600 block of North National Avenue. There were no arrests.

• A two-vehicle non-jury crash was reported at about 2:45 p.m. June 25 at Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue. The crash briefly blocked a turn lane. There were no arrests.

 

Theft

• Theft was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 8 p.m. June 25. While police logs did not note what was stolen, the caller said they had video and statements related to the crime.

 

Criminal trespass

• A caller in the 600 block of Northwest Prindle Street reported that a woman had been trespassing on their property. The woman was not on the property when the report was made at about 9 p.m. June 25, but the caller said she usually arrives at night.

• A business in the 300 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue reported that a male customer was asking odd questions in the lobby before leaving on foot at about 9:30 a.m. June 24. The caller thought the male was going to a vehicle to retrieve a weapon. The manager, who said the male appeared “to be on something,” didn’t let the male back in the lobby.

• Trespassing was reported “up the hill” from the Chamber of Commerce on Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and North National Avenue at 12:20 p.m. June 24. The reporting party said a man and woman were seen going past a no trespassing sign with bicycles and a backpack.

• Trespassing was reported at 1:45 p.m. June 24 in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue after a male became angry the business would not accept his insurance card to pay for gas. The man was reportedly taken to a hospital for treatment after contact with police.

 

Violation of protection order

• A violation of a protection order was reported at 4:11 p.m. June 24 in the 200 block of Southwest Lewis Street. The order had been violated via a phone call, per the caller.

 

Dogs in vehicles

• A report of a dog locked inside a vehicle was made in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way at about 1:40 p.m. June 25. An officer determined the dog was showing no signs of distress, a window was open and that the owners took the dog out of the vehicle after speaking to an officer.

Burglary

• A second-degree burglary was reported at 10:26 a.m. June 24 in the 1500 block of North National Avenue. No additional information details were available. 

 

Assault

• A third-degree assault was reported at about 1:45 p.m. June 25 in the 900 block of Northwest Pennsylvania Avenue. No additional details were available.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A truck and trailer loaded with pallets was flagged as suspicious by a caller in the 1200 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at about 1 a.m. June 26.

• A vehicle tire was slashed overnight in a lot in the 300 block of West Main St., according to a report at 11:55 a.m. June 24. The victim suspected a protection order had been violated. She wanted to review surveillance footage of the incident.

 

Family disturbance

• A caller in the 10 block of Southeast 16th Street reported that a juvenile was removed from the residence after threatening and striking her, breaking her glasses. The parties were separated. No arrests were made.

• A disorderly juvenile was reported at 4:37 p.m. in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street. The juvenile did not want to go to her dad’s house.

 

Phone scam

• A possible phone scam was reported by a resident in the 200 block of North Market Boulevard at about 1:34 p.m. June 24. According to the reporting party, a call was received that included a crying female with a male asking “is this your daughter.” The recipient of the phone call does not have a daughter. The caller hung up when asked for a location.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 120 inmates, including 106 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 83 were reported male and 23 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and three were reported female.

• As of Tuesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 21 inmates, including 15 booked by the Centralia Police Department, five booked by the state Department of Corrections and one booked by the Lummi Nation.
