Sirens: DUI Suspect Strikes Police Vehicle; Assault; Criminal Impersonation; Theft

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from the 1100 block of Kresky Avenue at 8:10 a.m. on Feb. 8. 

• A Centralia man was cited for stealing alcohol from a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue and leaving in a vehicle just after 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 9. 

• A 54-year-old man was arrested in the 1400 block of South Gold Street just after 4:35 a.m. on Feb. 10 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged second-degree theft, second-degree malicious mischief and a possible third-degree possession of stolen property charge after he was found cutting a catalytic converter off of a vehicle with a reciprocating saw and a flashlight. A subsequent search warrant revealed that the vehicle he had driven to the scene, and for which he possessed a key, had several other catalytic converters within it as well as additional saw blades, used and new, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Criminal Impersonation

• Two subjects were arrested in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 10:15 a.m. on Feb. 8 and were booked into the Lewis County Jail for outstanding felony warrants. One of the subjects was additionally charged with criminal impersonation for allegedly giving officers a false name. 

 

Assault 

• A Centralia man was arrested in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road just after 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 8 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged fourth-degree assault. 

• A Chehalis woman was arrested in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 9 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged third-degree theft and fourth-degree assault after she allegedly stole property from a business and threw ice and water on an employee. 

 

Hit-and-Run

• A hit-and-run reported in the 100 block of Harrison Avenue at 5:50 p.m. on Feb. 8 is under investigation. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 600 block of Centralia College Boulevard at approximately 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 8. 

• A gray Dodge pickup reportedly hit a vehicle in the 200 block of East Locust Street just before 3:25 p.m. on Feb. 9 and fled the scene without exchanging information with the other driver. 

 

DUI 

• Caleb R. Richey, 35, of Onalaska, was arrested in the 1400 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 8:25 p.m. on Feb. 8 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. Officers reportedly saw Richey “stopped in the middle of the roadway before driving into a parking lot,” according to the Centralia Police Department. Officers went to contact Richey and found him “passed out in the driver seat with drug paraphernalia around him” while his vehicle was still running and in gear. “Officers placed spike strips behind Richey’s tires to avoid a vehicle pursuit in case he tried to flee the scene,” according to the Centralia Police Department. When officers contacted Richey, he allegedly removed his foot from the brake and applied the gas, backing over the spike strips, which  caused his tire to go flat. The vehicle then hit a Centralia police vehicle. “Richey was placed into custody without further incident,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• Brett A. Hoover, 59, of Centralia, was arrested in the 400 block of West Main Street just before 11:20 p.m. on Feb. 8 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly being in physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs.

 

Vehicle Accident

• A non-injury collision was reported at the intersection of West Maple and North Pearl streets just after 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 9. 

 

Criminal Trespass 

• Two males were trespassed from a health care facility in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Feb. 10 after they reportedly refused to leave the facility and threatened to fight staff who asked them to leave.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Malicious Mischief 

• Mailboxes were reportedly found pried open in the 10 block of Southwest 13th Street just before 8:10 a.m. on Feb. 8. It is unknown whether mail was stolen. 

 

Criminal Trespass

• A woman reportedly tried to kick in the door to a residence in the 100 block of Southwest Alfred Street at 2:20 p.m. on Feb. 8. 



• A man was arrested in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 4:50 p.m. on Feb. 8 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly stealing a shopping cart. He was trespassed from the business and was charged with second-degree burglary in Lewis County Superior Court on Feb. 9.

 

Assault 

• A subject was cited for fourth-degree assault in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 8. 

• A fourth-degree assault reported in the 100 block of Southwest Sixth Street just before 6:20 p.m. on Feb. 9 is under investigation. 

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A man was reportedly “walking around, going in and out of traffic, swearing at people (and) throwing things” in the 300 block of West Main street at approximately 6 p.m. on Feb. 8. 

• A group of teenagers were reportedly “running down 19th Street banging on house doors and cars” just before 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 8. 

• A case of disorderly conduct was reported in the 700 block of Southwest Moonlight Lane just before 4:20 p.m. on Feb. 9. A woman was reportedly “hysterical” over a caregiver, who was reportedly “not supposed to be there but refused to leave,” taking her keys. 

 

Suspicious Circumstances 

• A man was reportedly “carrying a chainsaw” in the 300 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just before 7:55 a.m. on Feb. 9. He reportedly told a bystander “he was looking for a tree to cut down.” 

Vehicle Prowl 

• A case of possible vehicle prowling was reported in the 2500 block of North National Avenue just after 8 a.m. on Feb. 9. 

• Just after 10:11 a.m. on Feb. 9, a vehicle prowl that occurred overnight in the 900 block of Northwest State Avenue was reported. 

• A vehicle prowl was reported in the 900 block of Northwest State Avenue at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 9. 

 

Fraud 

• A case of “non-specific fraud” that was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 is under investigation. 

 

Bicycle Theft 

• Just after 6:50 a.m. on Feb. 10,  a bicycle was reported stolen from the 1000 block of Southwest Washington Avenue sometime overnight. 

 

Dispute 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 1700 block of South Market Boulevard just before 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 9. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of Jackson Highway and Wallace Road just before 6:35 p.m. on Feb. 9. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 165 inmates, including 153 in the general population and 12 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 118 were reported male and 35 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 10 were reported male and two were reported female.
