Sirens: Girl kicks, spits on officer; Cellphone mistaken for pistol; Girl, 1, crawls out of house; Man tries to sell mushrooms outside of business

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• At 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 25, a caller in the 200 block of Southeast Prospect Street reported vandalism that occurred sometime overnight and a theft that occurred on Oct. 23. 

• At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 26, a caller reported he thought someone entered his apartment in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard, “drank his Vitamin Water then stole his bike.” 

• Just after 6:45 a.m. on Oct. 27, a vehicle prowl that occurred in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street sometime overnight was reported. 

 

Drug violations 

• A subject was cited for a drug violation in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard just before 1:50 p.m. on Oct. 25. 

• A juvenile was reportedly found with drug paraphernalia and a knife in the 1200 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue at 4:25 p.m. on Oct. 25. 

 

Fraud 

• A case of “non-specific fraud” reported in the 1200 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 1:55 p.m. on Oct. 25 is under investigation. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A shoplifting suspect was trespassed from a business in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 25. 

• A male subject who was reportedly picking “things” out of a business’ flowerbed in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and trying to sell them to customers as “mushrooms” at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Oct. 26 was trespassed from the business. 

• A male subject was trespassed from a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 5:55 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• A male subject was reportedly walking “with a grocery cart and a ladder” in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street just before 3:15 p.m. on Oct. 25. 

• A male subject “with possibly no pants on” who was “wrapped up in a blue blanket” was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 4:05 p.m. on Oct. 25. 

• At approximately 6:25 p.m. on Oct. 25, a caller in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported his daughter told him someone had burned her face with a cigarette. 

• Just after 6:40 p.m. on Oct. 25, a caller reported he left his backpack in an alley in the 400 block of Chehalis Avenue while he was digging through a nearby dumpster, and an employee of an associated business had taken his backpack and refused to give it back. The employee returned the backpack to the caller while the caller was on the phone with police. 

• A caller reported hearing “popping/crackling sounds” in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 4:45 a.m. on Oct. 26. 

• A suspicious male subject was reportedly “making a mess” by “throwing stuff up in the air and trying to catch it” in the 1200 block of South Market Boulevard just after 8:35 a.m. on Oct. 26. 

• Phone threats were reported in the 2200 block of Jackson Highway at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

• A subject was reportedly “yelling and screaming,” “punching signs” and “throwing rocks and sticks” at the intersection of Southwest Third Street and Southwest Pacific Avenue just after 11:10 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

• A caller reported hearing a “click-clacking sound” inside a building in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 1:25 a.m. on Oct. 27. The caller was advised to “stop calling law for this and advise the building manager.” 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Fourth Street at 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 25. A vehicle reportedly struck a parked car. 

• Minor injuries were reported following a two-vehicle, blocking collision in the 600 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way at 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

• A non-injury, three-vehicle blocking collision was reported in the 2300 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue just after 3:25 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

 

Assault 

• A third-degree assault reported in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street just after 12:05 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

• Just after 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 26, a caller at the intersection of Southwest McFadden Avenue and Southwest Fourth Street reported he “thinks he was assaulted by a beer” and asked officers to check the area and “contact the beer-throwing guy.” 

 

Burglary 



• Just after 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 26, a caller reported the door to a vacant apartment in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street was open. The caller reported it “looks like the lock has been picked.” No one was located inside. 

• A burglary to a vacant house in the 10 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue was reported at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• A student was reportedly “not wanting to get off the bus and (was) causing a problem” in the 2100 block of North National Avenue at 2:50 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

 

Contraband 

• A subject was cited for possession of contraband at Green Hill School in the 300 block of Southwest 11th street just before 4 p.m. on Oct. 26. 

 

Reckless endangerment 

• A subject was arrested and released or referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office for reckless endangerment charges after a 1-year-old girl “who only crawls” was reported missing from a home in the 900 block of Southeast Adams Avenue just before 12:40 a.m. on Oct. 27. A 3-year-old child in the home reportedly opened the door while the children were unsupervised. Children have previously been reported missing from this same residence, according to the Chehalis Police Department. 

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Suspicious circumstances 

• At 7:55 a.m. on Oct. 26, officers responded to a report of a male subject walking on the sidewalk in the 600 block of West Main Street with what looked to be an assault rifle. Officers contacted the subject, a homeless man from Texas, and determined he “had a BB gun that looked like a rifle.” 

• A homeless man was reportedly “going through trash with an ax” in the 2000 block of Haviland Street at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Oct. 26. He was arrested and released on an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant. 

• A male subject was reportedly “waving a pistol around” in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road at 1:20 p.m. on Oct. 26. After searching the area and reviewing security footage, officers determined the subject “was carrying a cellphone in his hand that was mistaken to be a pistol by the reporting party.” 

 

Camping violation 

• A homeless man from Centralia was reportedly camping in a tent on city-owned property in the 500 block of South Gold Street just before 8:10 a.m. on Oct. 26. Officers gave the man a verbal warning about the camping violation and advised him of local shelter resources. 

 

Theft 

• Donuts and bakery items were reported stolen from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just before 9:25 a.m. on Oct. 26. The case is under investigation. 

 

Assault 

• A juvenile female was arrested in the 900 block of Eshom Road just before 3:05 p.m. on Oct. 26 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for two counts of third-degree assault and resisting arrest after she allegedly kicked and spit on an officer. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• One person was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 26. One vehicle reportedly failed to yield right of way to an oncoming vehicle while making a left turn. 

• A vehicle struck a deer that ran into the roadway at the intersection of Halliday and Little Hanaford roads just after 9:05 p.m. on Oct. 26. The vehicle sustained significant damage. No human injuries were reported. 

 

DUI 

• A 47-year-old Olympia woman was arrested at the intersection of Lowe Street and Harrison Avenue just after 3:45 p.m. on Oct. 26 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 131 inmates, including 119 in the general population and 12 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 98 were reported male and 21 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 10 were reported male and two were reported female.
