Sirens: Man pokes at dogs with folding saw; DUI crash and arrest; Man drinks vodka, wine in public; RV occupants told to leave

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Animal cruelty

• A 48-year-old Chehalis man was cited for second-degree animal cruelty after allegedly “poking at dogs within a fenced area with a folding saw, causing minor injury to the dog” in the 1100 block of North Pearl Street just after 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 13. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A 19-year-old Cinebar man was cited for second-degree criminal trespass in the 100 block of South Pearl Street just before 1:55 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

• A homeless man was trespassed from property in the 400 block of Union Street just after noon on Oct. 15 at the property owner’s request. 

 

DUI 

• A hit-and-run by a suspected drunk driver was reported in the 1400 block of Johnson Road just after 4:50 p.m. on Oct. 13. An officer stopped a suspect, a 58-year-old Centralia woman, a few miles away from the crash. She was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 200 block of Downing Road just before 7:10 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 900 block of West Main Street just after 7:35 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

 

Drug and alcohol violations 

• A 32-year-old Centralia man was cited for possession of cocaine in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue just before 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 after officers responded to a report he was passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle parked behind a tavern. The man was turned over to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office for a DUI warrant. 

• A male subject was reportedly “drinking vodka in public and walking back and forth in the roadway” in the 600 block of Harrison Avenue just before 2:35 p.m. on Oct. 15. Officers located the subject, a homeless man from Tacoma, and issued him an infraction. About a half an hour later, officers observed the same man drinking a bottle of wine in public about five blocks away. Officers disposed of the alcohol and issued the man a second infraction. 

 

Theft 

• A 24-year-old Olympia man and a 39-year-old Lacey man were cited for third-degree theft in the 300 block of West Reynolds Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 15. The stolen property was returned to the business it was stolen from. 

• A female suspect reportedly shoplifted a watch from a business in the 1300 block of Lum Road just before 1:45 p.m. on Oct. 15. Officers were unable to locate the suspect. 

• A wood stove was reported stolen from the 1500 block of Central Boulevard at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Oct. 15. An officer located it later that day. 

• A purse was reported stolen out of a vehicle in the 400 block of North Oak Street at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury vehicle accident reported in the 700 block of South Market Boulevard just before 11:05 a.m. on Oct. 13 is under investigation. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 600 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just after 1:05 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of Northwest State Avenue and West Main Street at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 14. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 500 block of West Main Street at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Oct. 14. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “screaming and going through (a) donation box” in the 2100 block of North National Avenue at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Oct. 13. 

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “screaming and yelling at customers” in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just after 11:35 a.m. on Oct. 13. 

• A disorderly subject was reportedly “throwing things around in the parking lot and beating on the building” of a business in the 600 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 15. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 2500 block of North National Avenue just after 11:50 a.m. on Oct. 13 is under investigation. 

 



Assault 

• An assault case reported in the 300 block of Southwest 11th Street just after 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 13 is under investigation. 

• A fourth-degree assault reported in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard at 5:35 p.m. on Oct. 14 is under investigation. 

 

Theft 

• Possible mail theft was reported in the 300 block of Northeast Washington Avenue at approximately 1 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

• A toolbox was reported stolen out of the back of a truck in the 10 block of Northeast Boistfort Street just after 10:10 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 11:25 p.m. on Oct. 15 is under investigation. 

• A second-degree theft was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Oct. 15. 

• A second-degree theft reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 2 p.m. on Oct. 15 is under investigation. 

• Just before 3:50 p.m. on Oct. 15, a vehicle prowl that occurred in the 100 block of Southeast Washington Avenue sometime overnight was reported. 

 

Burglary 

• A subject was cited for second-degree burglary during a shoplifting attempt in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3:05 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

• Two subjects were arrested in the 2100 block of North National Avenue at 5:50 p.m. on Oct. 14 and were booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary. 

 

Dispute 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at 6:20 p.m. on Oct. 13. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• Occupants of an RV were trespassed from property in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 8:50 a.m. on Oct. 14. 

• Subjects were reportedly trespassing on property in the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. 

• Occupants of an RV were trespassed from property in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 7:25 a.m. on Oct. 15. 

• A subject was reportedly trespassing at a vacant house in the 10 block of Southwest Sixth Street just after 1:40 p.m. on Oct. 15. 

• Subjects were reportedly camping at a vacant residence in the 10 block of Southwest Sixth Street just before 6:45 p.m. on Oct. 15. 

• Subjects were reportedly trespassing at a vacant house at the intersection of Southwest Seventh Street and Southwest McFadden Avenue just after 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 15. 

• A case of trespassing reported in the 10 block of Southwest Sixth Street just after 8:10 p.m. on Oct. 15 is under investigation. 

• A woman was reportedly trespassing at a business in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 15. The reporting party called back about five minutes later to report they misidentified the woman and she wasn’t trespassing. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• A woman was reportedly sitting on or near the tracks at the intersection of Northwest Pacific Avenue and Southwest Third Street just before 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 14. 

• Male subjects were reportedly trying to sell jewelry in the parking lot of a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:35 p.m. on Oct. 14. 

• A caller reported he was being followed by “15 to 20 cars” in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard just after 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 15. Officers determined the caller had possible mental health issues and offered resources, which the caller declined. 

• A male subject was reportedly wearing “body armor” on a business’ property in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Oct. 15. The male was reportedly wearing a “vest for (a) security interview” and left at the business’ request. 

 

Death investigation 

• A death reported in the 2100 block of Southwest Woodland Circle just after 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 15 is under investigation. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 144 inmates, including 133 in the general population and 11 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 104 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 10 were reported male and one was reported female.
