Sirens: Naked female in duct tape; ‘Unwanted boyfriend’; Angry 911 caller; Swinging an ax at Seminary Hill; Flock camera leads to another arrest

Centralia Police Department 

Nuisance violation

• Centralia police and code enforcement posted a truck and trailer with nuisance violation notices for being parked on the city right of way with garbage and other items strewn about. The truck and trailer were in the 600 block of South Diamond Street. The notices were issued at about 10:20 a.m. Aug. 9. 

 

Arrested while panhandling

• John S. Youngbrandt, 49, of Thurston County, was arrested and booked on a felony Department of Corrections warrant at about 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at 118 W. Maple St. after an officer observed him panhandling at a freeway of-ramp near Grand mound.

 

Theft arrests 

• Auza’rae M. Baldock 33, Ronald A. Garner 37, and Betty F. Garner 60, all of Tacoma, were arrested and released for third-degree at about 1:26 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue after allegedly being observed concealing items in a purse and leaving the store without paying from them. They were also suspected in a previous theft but were not identified until Aug. 9. They will be referred for summons via Centralia Municipal Court for the previous theft case.  

 

Theft 

• A package was stolen from the porch of a residence in the 300 block of Harrison Avenue, according to a report at 7:19 p.m. Aug. 9. The case is still under investigation.

 

 

Possession of drugs

• Jonathan M. Christensen, 35 of Onalaska, was arrested and released for allegedly knowingly possessing a controlled substance, heroin, at about 10:20 p.m. Aug, 9 in the 300 block of Lowe Street. 

 

 

Malicious mischief

• Damage to a vehicle window was reported just after midnight Aug. 10 in the 700 block of H Street. No suspect information is known at this time.

 

Stolen vehicle  

• A vehicle that was parked in the Providence Centralia Hospital parking lot in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road was reported stolen at about 3:45 a.m. Aug. 10.

 

Arrested for damaging bank building with ax 

• Police received the report of a male using an ax to “chip away” at the bank teller window of a now unoccupied bank in the 100 block of South Pearl Street at about 7 a.m. Aug. 10  Police contacted the male at the bank, who allegedly used an ax and a glass-breaking tool to damage the teller window. The male also used tools to partially dismantle the external teller window. Garrett M. Hadeen-Speer, 33 of Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree malicious mischief. Charges of second-degree criminal trespassing and third-degree theft are being referred to the prosecutor’s office.

 

Assault victim refuses to cooperate

• There was a report of an “adult transient male assaulting another adult transient male” at 7:22 a.m. Aug. 10 in the 1300 block of Eckerson Road. The victim refused to cooperate.

 

Hit-and-run and a false report

  A hit-and-run collision was reported at 11:18 a.m. Aug. 10 at the intersection of Borst Avenue and Allen Avenue. The suspect fled the scene in his pickup after colliding with another vehicle on a city road. An officer responded and obtained statements from the victim and witness. The officer located the suspect’s vehicle via the Flock camera system. A short time later, the suspect attempted to file a hit-and-run report in Chehalis, claiming the accident occurred in Chehalis and that he was the victim of the crime. Barry J. Billie, 65, of Centralia, was arrested and released with a criminal citation for hit-and-run. 

 

Alleged drug user asked to leave

• Two males were reportedly using drugs behind a local church in the 1100 block of West First Street, according to a caller at 1:41 p.m. Aug. 10. The caller requested the males be trespassed from the property. An officer arrived on scene and located one of the males, who was identified as a transient male from Toledo. The male was trespassed per the caller’s request.

 

Setting up camp

• A caller reported “transient persons” were setting up a camp in a parking lot at the intersection of West Pine Street and North Silver Street at about 3:41 p.m. Aug. 10. An officer responded to the scene but was not able to make contact with the subjects. 

 

Eluding police

• Officer received a Flock camera system alert for a stolen vehicle at Harrison Avenue and Interstate 5 at about 4:22 p.m. Aug. 10. The officer located the stolen vehicle in the outlet parking lot. When the officer attempted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, it fled the outlets.  The officer did not pursue the stolen vehicle to comply with state law.

 

Naked female in duct tape

• Officers responded to a report of a naked female who was wrapping herself in duct tape near the outlet stores on Lum Road at about 4:51 p.m. Aug. 10. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the female.

 

Flock camera leads to another arrest

• Officers were notified via the Flock Safety camera system of a stolen vehicle in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at about 6 p.m. Aug. 10. Officers located the vehicle, which pulled into the AM/PM parking lot. Officers pinned the vehicle in to prevent the driver from escaping with the stolen vehicle. Officers were able to  take the suspect into custody without incident. The suspect claimed he was residing in the stolen vehicle. Jason C. Nelson, 45, of Winlock, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle. 

 



Hit-and-run 

• At 5:21 p.m. Aug. 10, a caller reported a hit-and-run collision that occurred earlier in the day at the intersection of West Main Street and North Oak Street.

 

Cargo trailer stolen, recovered

• A cargo trailer was stolen from a residence between 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 in the 1400 block of Prospect Avenue. The trailer was later recovered. Lewis County deputies assisted in the recovery of the trailer. There are no suspects at this time.

 

Motorcycle crash

• A report of a motorcycle going off the roadway was made at 7:53 p.m. Aug. 10 in the 800 block of North Gold Street. No other vehicles were involved.

 

Swinging an ax at Seminary Hill

• Officers responded to the area of Seminary Hill in the 400 block of East Locust Street for a report of a female swinging an ax at people and damaging a fence at about 7:55 p.m. Aug. 10. Officers located Megan Murphy, 35, of Chehalis, who was arrested for second-degree assault and malicious mischief and booked into the Lewis County Jail.

 

Fireworks thrown from van

• An officer responded to the 3600 block of Galvin Road at about 9:40 p.m. Aug. 10 for a report of someone driving by and throwing exploding fireworks in the caller’s yard. The caller reported it happened two times. The vehicle was only described as a gray van. The officer waited in the area but the van did not return.

 

Chehalis Police Department

Stolen vehicle recovered 

• A stolen vehicle was recovered at 8:10 a.m. Aug. 9 in the 300 block of Southwest Newaukum Avenue. 

 

Dog threatened 

• At 10:43 a.m. Aug. 9 in the 10 block of Southwest Fifth Street, a caller reported a neighbor had threatened to kill another neighbor’s dog, stating “enjoy your final days on this f-cking earth.” An officer spoke with the caller and determined the person who made the threats had left for the day and didn’t present a threat. 

 

Crashes

• A vehicle struck a light pole in the 600 block of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way at about 3:07 p.m. Aug 9. One person had minor injuries. 

• A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 3:19 p.m. Aug. 9 in the 1000 block of Northwest State Street. 

Vehicle theft

• A 1994 Honda Accord was reported stolen from the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 4:42 p.m. Aug. 9. The owner had video footage of the vehicle being stolen. The vehicle was located on Moon Road in Rochester by Chehalis Tribal police. 

 

Protection order 

• At 4:51 p.m. Aug. 9, a caller in the 400 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue reported a possible protection order violation because a person who previously walked through their property with a gun was staring at their back door. 

 

Theft 

• A caller in the 1500 block of North National Avenue reported the possible theft of antiques by a neighbor at 7:12 p.m. Aug. 9. The caller had no evidence and the person accused of the theft denied it. 

• An employee at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue was arrested for theft after a call at about 5:54 p.m. Aug. 10. 

 

Angry 911 caller 

• A caller berated a 911 dispatcher from an address near the intersection of Northeast Hampe Way and North National Avenue at 10:13 p.m. Aug. 9. The caller cursed at the dispatcher and was “just yelling a bunch of numbers.” 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run crash was reported at the intersection of Northwest State Avenue and West Main Street at 9:16 p.m. Aug. 10. A blue semi-truck reportedly drove through a railroad crossing and took out the crossing arm. The truck fled northbound on Interstate 5. 

 

‘Unwanted boyfriend’

• A caller in the 300 block of Southeast Park Hill Drive asked at about 11:30 a.m. Aug. 10 that police have their daughter’s “unwanted boyfriend” trespassed from their residence. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 153 inmates, including 140 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 109 were reported male and 31 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
