CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Criminal trespass 

• A caller asked officers to contact a man who was refusing to leave a property in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue at 8:45 a.m. on July 26. 

• A 42-year-old homeless man from Chehalis was trespassed from a motel in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 9:50 p.m. on July 26 for “yelling and screaming at no one for no reason.” 

 

Theft 

• Two suspects reportedly shoplifted from a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m. on July 26. Both suspects fled south on Interstate 5 before officers arrived. The case is under investigation. 

• Property was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road at 8:25 a.m. on July 27. 

• A vape pen was reported stolen from inside a library in the 100 block of South Silver Street just before 10:50 a.m. on July 27. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage and working to identify the suspect. 

• Two cans of beer were reported stolen from a store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at 2:20 p.m. on July 27. Officers have a surveillance photo and are working to locate the suspect. 

• Bedding items and clothing were reported stolen from a business in the 1300 block of Lum Road just after 4:15 p.m. on July 27. 

• A light blue Ford Ranger pickup with a rear sliding window and dent on the driver door was reported stolen from the 900 block of L Street just before 6:10 a.m. on July 28. 

 

Wellness check 

• Officers were dispatched to a report of a homeless man laying on the curb/sidewalk in the 100 block of North Gold Street at noon on July 26. Officers asked him to move off of the curb. 

 

Vicious dog 

• A dog owner was issued a citation just before 8 p.m. on July 26 after their dog chased a man on a bike in the 400 block of South Gold Street and bit his ankle. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• A window was reported broken out of a parked truck in the 100 block of Yew Street at 11:50 a.m. on July 27. 

• Officers identified a 14-year-old boy as one of two juvenile suspects accused of spray painting a sign at an apartment complex in the 400 block of North Ash Street just after 2:50 p.m. on July 27. Charges have not been referred at this point in time since the officer is awaiting a response from the owners of the property, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Vehicle accident 

• One person was transported to the hospital for medical attention after one vehicle pulled in front of another at the intersection of Oxford Avenue and Marion Street and was struck on the driver’s side just after 4:30 p.m. on July 27. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported by a witness who observed a small passenger car hit the rear of a large pickup truck in the 100 block of West Main Street just after 6:25 p.m. on July 27. The small car fled the area and the pickup driver never called to report the collision. The small car was later located by Lewis County deputies in Chehalis, where it was stopped. The driver of the vehicle was determined to be impaired and arrested. It was not clear if the driver arrested for DUI was also the same driver involved in the collision in Centralia, according to the Centralia Police Department. The driver’s name has not been released by law enforcement. 

 

Department assist 

• Centralia patrol units responded to the 3600 block of Harrison Avenue just before 4:45 a.m. on July 28  to assist the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office with an occupied stolen vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and made numerous attempts to gain compliance from the occupant and to have him exit the vehicle.  The occupant refused to exit the vehicle. Centralia officers, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a Washington State Patrol trooper eventually blocked the vehicle in to prevent escape and extracted the male from the confirmed stolen vehicle. The male, identified as Joshua F. Peterson, 33 of Olympia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Disorderly conduct 

• A disorderly male was reportedly “destroying things” inside a business in the 500 block of Southeast Adams Avenue just after 10:15 a.m. on July 26. 

• A male was reportedly punching a building in the 300 block of Northwest North Street just after 12:55 p.m. on July 27. 

 

Complaint 



• At approximately 10:55 a.m. on July 26, a subject called to complain about three to four “guys that live in a tent in the alley” in the 700 block of Northwest Ohio Avenue. The reporting party “just kept making inappropriate comments about (the) subjects instead of giving (the) calltaker information,” according to the Chehalis Police Department. 

 

Fraud 

• Just after 8:15 a.m. on July 27, a caller from Oregon reported possible fraud that occurred in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard. After talking with the caller, an officer reported “information presented to me did not appear indicative of fraud, more like a nasty breakup,” according to the Chehalis Police Department. The caller reportedly “wanted belongings returned to her that were purchased during the breakup.” 

 

Found child 

• A 2-year-old boy was found crying alone on a playground in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 3:10 p.m. on July 26. Bystanders and law enforcement worked to locate the child’s parents. 

 

Theft 

• A subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 7:10 p.m. on July 26. 

 

Shooting complaint

• A caller reported hearing “what sounds like multiple gunshots” in the 1600 block of Southwest Gails Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. on July 26. The caller advised it “absolutely wasn’t a vehicle backfiring but multiple gunshots shooting off, nine shots or more” and advised it “could’ve also been fireworks but probably gunshots,” according to the Chehalis Police Department. 

 

Vehicle accident 

• Just after 8:55 a.m. on July 27, a caller reported someone backed into her vehicle in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue on July 21 and agreed to pay for the damages but has since blocked the caller’s number. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• A suspicious male was reportedly in the blackberry bushes in the 1200 block of Southwest Pacific Avenue at approximately 1:45 p.m. on July 27. The reporting party said they didn’t know what the male was doing and advised “no one should be where they are.” 

• Just before 3:25 p.m. on July 27, a caller reported a male and a female were following his wife to her vehicle in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. 

• A male was reportedly walking around a parking lot and following people in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 2:10 a.m. on July 28. He was later reportedly walking in the middle of the roadway. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• Two customers were trespassed from a business in the 600 block of North National Avenue at 3:45 p.m. on July 27 after an employee reportedly worked on the customers’ car and the customers refused to pay. The reporting party was “very heated” and was “cursing at the customer” while on the phone with law enforcement. The reporting party “was advised to stop yelling at the customers and wait for law (enforcement),” according to the Chehalis Police Department. 

• A male subject who reportedly built a “hut” out of a pallet near the drive-thru area of a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard was trespassed from the property just after 9:35 p.m. on July 27. 

• A male subject who was reportedly harassing employees at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 3:50 a.m. on July 28 was trespassed from the business. 

 

Dispute 

• A civil dispute was reported in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 4 p.m. on July 27. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• A juvenile problem was reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 4:15 a.m. on July 28. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 154 inmates, including 142 in the general population and 12 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 112 were reported male and 30 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 10 were reported male and two were reported female.
