Sirens: ‘Power of Persuasion’; Criminal Impersonation; Semi vs. Utility Box; Morton and Mossyrock Reports

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Vehicle Accidents

• Minor injuries were reported after a two-vehicle collision that occurred in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 7:35 a.m. on Aug. 8.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 9.

 

Theft

• A cellphone was reported stolen from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 8:40 a.m. on Aug. 8.

• At approximately 11:35 a.m. on Aug. 9, a large campaign sign was reported stolen from the intersection of Northeast Boistfort Street and Northeast Washington Avenue sometime the previous afternoon.

 

Hit-and-Run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just after 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 8.

 

Disorderly Conduct

• A disorderly man was reportedly “threatening violence” to staff at a business in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just after 12:25 a.m. on Aug. 9.

• A man who was reportedly “drinking a beer in the parking lot” of a business in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4:40 p.m. on Aug. 9 was trespassed from the area.

• A man who allegedly stole a beverage, “demand(ed) shoes from customers and employees,” threatened to “murder them,” told someone he would “punch (them) in the sternum and take his teeth with him” and then “removed a traffic pole out of (the) ground and threw it” was arrested in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 9 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail.

• A disorderly man who was reportedly “yelling at people and being aggressive” was trespassed from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 8:50 p.m. on Aug. 9.

 

‘Power of Persuasion’

• Just after 8:30 p.m. on Aug 9, a caller in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue reported a “robbery” where a female customer “used the power of persuasion to buy a phone from him and not pay full price.” The officer “explained to (the caller) that it wasn’t a robbery, he just gave her a discount.” No arrests were made.

 

Teens Throwing Rocks

• Teens were reportedly “throwing rocks and hit(ting) other teenagers” at the intersection of Southwest 15th Street and Southwest Wilson Avenue just after 12:05 a.m. on Aug. 10. No injuries were reported and no arrests were made.

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Criminal Impersonation

• A Winlock man was arrested at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Central Boulevard just after 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 8 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail on an outstanding warrant and for alleged first-degree criminal impersonation.

 

Residential Theft

• A theft from a residential property in the 400 block of Denny Way was reported just before 10:25 a.m. on Aug. 8.

• A lawnmower was reported stolen from a residential carport in the 100 block of North Diamond Street just before noon on Aug. 8.

 

Retail Theft

• A Glenoma man was cited for third-degree theft just after 12:05 p.m. on Aug. 8 after he allegedly stole merchandise from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue.

• Two Portland residents were arrested in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 1:35 p.m. on Aug. 9 and were booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly stealing clothing from a store.

 

Other Theft

• Property was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 700 block of Marsh Avenue on Aug. 8 just before midnight.

• At 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 9, a catalytic converter theft that occurred in the 1100 block of West Walnut Street sometime during the past week was reported.

 



Semi vs. Utility Box

• A semi truck collided with a utility box in the 1400 block of Mahoney Drive just after 10:55 a.m. on Aug. 8.

 

Assault

• Just before 3:40 p.m. on Aug. 8, there was a report of a man assaulting a woman in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue. The assault allegedly occurred after the man’s dog attacked the woman’s dogs when walking them. No arrests were made.

• A Centralia man was cited for fourth-degree assault in the 2300 block of North Pearl Street just after 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 9.

 

Rental Scam

• A rental scam where a suspect falsely listed a house for rent that was owned by another person was reported in the 100 block of Jaylyn Street just after 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 8. The victim contacted the suspect via the online listing and the suspect requested money as part of the rental application fee. The victim later discovered that the house was not for rent and was owned by another person.

 

Malicious Mischief

• A Chehalis man was arrested in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue just before noon on Aug. 9 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail on an outstanding warrant and for allegedly damaging a vehicle’s windshield.

 

MORTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

Morton Incidents

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Third Street just before 10:20 a.m. on Aug. 1 regarding a death investigation. The death appeared to be natural and the officer remained on scene until the deputy coroner arrived.

• An officer was dispatched to Arbor Health Hospital just before 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 2 regarding a disorderly subject. The officer spoke to the individual, who agreed to calm down.

• An officer was dispatched to Gust Backstrom Park just before 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 2 regarding vandalism of a personal vehicle. The victim decided to not press charges and an informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to Arbor Health Hospital just before 11:55 a.m. on Aug. 3 regarding a disorderly subject. The officer spoke to the individual, who agreed to calm down.

• An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of Main Avenue just after 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 5 regarding a civil matter.

• An officer was dispatched to Gust Backstrom Park just before 9:25 p.m. on Aug. 5 regarding a disorderly subject. The subject left the park with no further incidents.

• An officer was dispatched to the Tilton River Bridge just before 5:05 p.m. on Aug. 6 regarding a reported catalytic converter theft. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Kosmos Lane just after 10:10 p.m. on Aug. 6 regarding a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was gone when the officer arrived.

 

Mossyrock Incidents

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Mossyrock Avenue just before 8:05 a.m. on Aug. 1 regarding a 911 hang-up call. The call was determined to be accidental.

• An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Court Street just before 6:05 p.m. on Aug. 1 regarding a traffic complaint. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

• An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of Williams Street just after 2 p.m. on Aug. 2 regarding suspicious circumstances. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of Williams Street just after 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 3 regarding suspicious circumstances. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of Williams Street just before 1:45 p.m. on Aug. 3 regarding suspicious circumstances. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of Williams Street just after 1:35 a.m. on Aug. 4 regarding suspicious circumstances. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to the 700 block of Williams Street just after 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 4 regarding suspicious circumstances. An informational report was taken.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIl STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 164 inmates, including 145 in the general population and 19 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 116 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 16 were reported male and three were reported female.
