Sirens: Rape and kidnapping reported; Jailed for controlled substance homicide; DUI arrests

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Rape 

• A 28-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 600 block of M Street at 7:55 a.m. on Nov. 23 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment. Charges had not been formally filed as of Monday morning but a preliminary hearing for felony charges in Lewis County Superior Court was scheduled for 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27. 

 

Found property 

• At 5:55 p.m. on Nov. 23, officers were asked to remove drug paraphernalia that was left in the bathroom of a convenience store in the 300 block of West Reynolds Avenue. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A 34-year-old homeless man from Centralia was trespassed from a gas station in the 600 block of Harrison Avenue at 10:05 p.m. on Nov. 23 for reportedly “asking customers to perform sexual acts on him.” 

• A homeless man from Longview was reportedly found sleeping inside a post office in the 200 block of Centralia College Boulevard just after 6:50 a.m. on Nov. 24. He was advised that he was not allowed to sleep inside the post office building. 

• A 34-year-old Centralia man who was reportedly yelling at customers outside a convenience store in the 600 block of Harrison Avenue at 10:25 a.m. on Nov. 25 was cited for second-degree criminal trespass. He was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary at approximately 11:15 a.m. that same day after he allegedly returned to the store and stole a soda. 

 

Malicious prosecution 

• Just after 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 24, officers responded to a second-hand report of a possible domestic violence protection order violation in the 1300 block of Crescent Avenue. Soon after officers were dispatched, the respondent in the order, a 30-year-old Centralia man, called the police to accuse the protected party of breaking into his home and hiding in his closet. Officers contacted the protected person in the closet and learned the respondent had invited the protected party over. “Evidently, (the man), after learning a third party reported the incident to police, told the protected person to hide in his closet, then attempted to have them arrested for burglary so he would not be in violation of the order,” according to the Centralia Police Department. He was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for six felony violations of a domestic violence protection order and malicious prosecution. 

 

Burglary 

• A 32-year-old homeless man from Anacortes was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary after a grocery store in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue reported a shoplift just before 5:05 p.m. on Nov. 24. The suspect allegedly stole from the same store back in September and was trespassed from the business. 

• A burglary to a business in the 1100 block of Caveness Drive was reported just before 10:10 a.m. on Nov. 25. The suspect reportedly pried open a door and stole a Stihl weed eater and lawn/garden equipment sometime overnight. 

• Just after 11:50 a.m. on Nov. 26, a burglary to a shed was reported in the 1000 block of South Gold Street sometime overnight. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A disorderly female subject was reportedly “screaming and walking in the street” in the 900 block of East Locust Street just before 9:10 p.m. on Nov. 24. 

• A homeless man from Centralia was reportedly “smashing his own vehicle with a flashlight” in the 300 block of North Gold Street just after 7:55 p.m. on Nov. 25. An officer contacted the man and calmed him down. No crime was committed and the man left on foot, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• A disorderly male subject reportedly “lit a pair of his own pants on fire on the sidewalk, then put out the fire with his own soda,” in the 300 block of North Gold Street just before 10:15 a.m. on Nov. 25. An officer contacted the male, who cleaned up the debris. 

• Just before 10:40 a.m. on Nov. 25, officers responded to a report of a disorderly woman “wearing a face covering and (an) ‘Uncle Sam’ type hat who was swinging a stick around and doing push ups” in the 400 block of South Tower Avenue. The woman, 47, of California, was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for an outstanding Department of Corrections warrant related to an arson case. 

 

DUI

• A 21-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1100 block of North Pearl Street at approximately 9:25 p.m. on Nov. 24 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for being in physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated. Officers reportedly contacted him while he was asleep inside his running vehicle, which was parked in the middle of the road. 

• A 34-year-old Centralia man was arrested at the intersection of North Pearl and West First streets at 12:10 a.m. on Nov. 26 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI. 

• A 21-year-old Centralia resident was arrested in the 800 block of Wayne Drive at 12:15 a.m. on Nov. 26 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI after officers responded to a non-injury collision. 

 

Assault 

• A 32-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 600 block of Jefferson Street just before 1:45 a.m. on Nov. 25 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• Just before 8:35 a.m. on Nov. 25, vandalism/graffiti to a vehicle that occurred in the 1100 block of H Street sometime overnight was reported. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A 51-year-old Centralia man was cited for a hit-and-run at the intersection of Harrison and Belmont avenues just after 4:20 p.m. on Nov. 25. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 3300 block of Fords Prairie Avenue at 1:40 p.m. on Nov. 26 is under investigation. 

 

Theft 

• A wallet with credit cards and identification was reported stolen from the 300 block of North Gold Street just after 6:55 a.m. on Nov. 26. 

 

Controlled substance homicide 

• A 45-year-old homeless man from Centralia was arrested in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 26 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for controlled substance homicide after an “investigation revealed he had provided drugs to a deceased male located in a local hotel room,” according to the Centralia Police Department. Charges had not been formally filed as of Monday morning but a preliminary hearing for felony charges in Lewis County Superior Court was scheduled for 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27. 

 

Drug violation 

• A 29-year-old Twin Falls woman was referred to Centralia Municipal Court for possession of drug paraphernalia charges after she was found “passed out” in a parking lot in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue “with items in her lap,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Dispute 

• A family dispute was reported in the 1000 block of B Street just after 10:10 p.m. on Nov. 26. No crime was committed. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Ongoing issues

• Just after 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 22, a caller in the 800 block of state Route 6 reported a nearby “homeless camp (was) becoming a nuisance.” The caller reported a male subject “ran out into the roadway” the day prior. 

• Just after 1:20 p.m. on Nov. 23, a caller reported an ongoing issue with a canopy being placed in an alley at the intersection of Southwest 10th Street and Southwest Cascade Avenue. The caller reported the canopy impedes the roadway. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A woman was reportedly “screaming at her kindergarten-aged child” at the corner of Southwest Third Street and Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 8:10 a.m. on Nov. 22. When contacted by an officer, the woman “stated she was talking to her kid too loud” and “she apologized.” 

• A disorderly subject was reportedly “yelling” and “refusing to leave” a property in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just before 1:25 p.m. on Nov. 24. 

 



Malicious mischief 

• A “little silver hatchback-looking vehicle” was reportedly “doing donuts in the grass” on a property in the 1500 block of Rice Road at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 22. The dispatcher said the FLOCK safety camera would be used to try and identify the vehicle. 

 

Fraud

• Just after 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 22, a caller reported receiving counterfeit money in the 300 block of Northwest North Street about an hour prior. 

• Credit card fraud was reported in the 100 block of Southwest Creekside Lane just after 4:05 p.m. on Nov. 23. 

 

Harassment 

• Just after 12:25 p.m. on Nov. 10, a caller in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue reported subjects were harassing her and refusing to return her cat to her. About an hour later, the caller called back to “again report her cat missing and accuse police of taking it.” 

• Phone harassment was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 2:45 p.m. on Nov. 26. 

 

Vehicle accidents

• Possible minor neck injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision that occurred in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 1:05 p.m. on Nov. 22. 

• A vehicle reportedly backed into a neighbor’s carport in the 800 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue at 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 25. No injuries were reported. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 22. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 11:25 a.m. on Nov. 26. 

 

DUI 

• A possible DUI was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest State Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. on Nov. 23. A vehicle was reportedly going the wrong way on a one-way street before going onto southbound Interstate 5. No arrests were made. 

 

Theft 

• A phone was reported stolen from the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:35 p.m. on Nov. 22. 

• Just before 4 p.m. on Nov. 22, a caller reported a woman attempted to steal their groceries in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard. 

• A possible “burglary/theft” in the 800 block of West Main Street was reported just before 1 p.m. on Nov. 24. 

• A subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 4 p.m. on Nov. 25. 

• A subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 2 p.m. on Nov. 26. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A shoplifting suspect was trespassed from a business in the 1700 block of North National Avenue at 4:05 p.m. on Nov. 22. 

• A caller asked officers to trespass two homeless subjects from a property in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just before 7:10 p.m. on Nov. 22. 

• A subject who was reportedly “wandering around some of the guest rooms” in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 10:35 p.m. on Nov. 22 was trespassed from the property. 

• A shoplifting suspect was trespassed from a business in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just after 10:15 a.m. on Nov. 24. 

• A case of trespassing was reported in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 7:20 p.m. on Nov. 24. 

• A disorderly male subject who “charged at (an) employee” inside a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3:25 p.m. on Nov. 25 was trespassed from the business. 

• A homeless man who was “sitting on (a) picnic bench (and) yelling and screaming at people” in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard was cited for trespassing just after 11:35 p.m. on Nov. 25. 

 

Illegal burn 

• Four juveniles reportedly built a fire under the overpass at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and southbound Interstate 5 at 11:50 p.m. on Nov. 23. 

 

Assault 

• A subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, after officers responded to a family dispute in the 1300 block of Northwest River Street just after 11:50 p.m. on Nov. 23. 

Welfare check 

• At approximately 4:35 p.m. on. Nov. 24, a caller at the customer service area of a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue asked officers to conduct a welfare check on an elderly woman who was dropped off by a caregiver several hours prior. The caller reported the woman “seems very confused” and said store staff were unable to get ahold of the caregiver. 

 

Disputes 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Eighth Street at approximately 10:35 p.m. on Nov. 24. 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 1300 block of Northwest State Avenue at 7:45 a.m. on Nov. 25. One subject reportedly had “a knife” and was “waving it around.” 

• A physical dispute involving “at least four or five people” was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 8:20 p.m. on Nov. 25. 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 800 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue just after 5:35 p.m. on Nov. 26. 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 26. 

Overdose 

• A possible overdose was reported in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 1:50 p.m. on Nov. 25. 

 

Animal negligence/abuse 

• A report of “animal negligence/abuse” made in the 300 block of Northwest Florida Avenue at 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 26 is under investigation. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 151 inmates, including 138 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 117 were reported male and 21 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
