Sirens: Suspect assaults officer; two men seen fighting; stolen credit card information leads to $500 in fraudulent transactions

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A credit card was reported stolen from a van in the 1200 block of West Main Street at 11 a.m. on June 26.

 

Fraud

• Just after 2 p.m. on June 26, a citizen in the 800 block of E Street reported credit card information had been stolen, resulting in over $500 in fraudulent transactions. The case is under investigation.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of North Pearl and West Third streets at 11:55 a.m. on June 26. One vehicle sustained extensive damage.

• A vehicle drove through a fence into a residential backyard in the 1200 block of North Tower Avenue just after 1:15 a.m. on June 27. No injuries were reported. During the investigation, an officer learned the juvenile driver was racing with another vehicle when the collision occurred. The juvenile was referred to Centralia Municipal Court for racing/reckless driving charges and other infractions.

• A vehicle rear-ended a school bus that stopped at a railroad crossing at the intersection of West First and M streets at approximately 7:55 a.m. on June 27. No injuries were reported.

 

Drug violations

• Just after 4:50 p.m. on June 26, an officer on proactive patrol in the 100 block of West High Street contacted a man and a woman in a business parking lot who were associated with a vehicle bearing two different license plates. While talking with the subjects, the officer noticed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle and noticed the woman was wearing new Nike shoes. The woman allegedly admitted to stealing the shoes from an outlet store. The shoes were returned and the store did not wish to press charges. The man, 51, of Shelton, was cited for knowing possession of fentanyl.

 

Burglary

• Unidentified suspects reportedly threw rocks through the exterior window of a business in the 1000 block of West Main Street and stole apparel from the display case just after 1:10 a.m. on June 27. Officers conducted a K-9 search in the area, but were not able to locate the suspects.

 



Assault

• Two men were seen fighting outside a residence in the 1100 block of South Yew Street just after 11:55 a.m. on June 27. The incident is being investigated as an assault.

• At approximately 10:55 p.m. on June 27, officers responded to the report of a male damaging property outside of a convenience store in the 200 block of Downing Road.  The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival, but officers located him shortly after. When placing the suspect into custody, the suspect assaulted one of the officers, who received a minor injury.  The suspect, a 23-year-old homeless man from Los Angeles, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree assault. Additional charges of resisting arrest and third-degree malicious mischief were referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office.

 

Criminal trespass

• A woman was trespassed from private property in the 2100 block of North Pearl Street at the resident’s request just before 7:45 p.m. on June 27.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 32 illness-related calls, 11 injury-related calls, 11 fire-related calls, five non-emergency service calls, seven vehicle accidents, two Lifeline medical alerts, one overdose, one rescue, one ambulance request and four other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 119 inmates, including 106 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 81 were reported male and 25 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Friday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 19 inmates, including 10 booked by the Centralia Police Department, seven booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Tenino Police Department and one booked by the Lummi Nation.
