Sirens: Teen jailed for DUI after crashing into power pole; 'Water pellet toy gun' shot at people; Man breaks into home, takes shower, steals items

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Vehicle accidents 

• A vehicle reportedly struck a power pole in the 1000 block of Mellen Street just after 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 9 and rolled over. No injuries were reported. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 700 block of North Tower Avenue at 2:20 p.m. on Nov. 10. One vehicle reportedly failed to yield right-of-way to the other. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and West High Street at 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 11 is under investigation. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run to a residential garage was reported in the 2000 block of Ahlers Avenue just after 3:20 p.m. on Nov. 11. The case is under investigation. 

• A 64-year-old Centralia man was cited for hit-and-run and third-degree driving with a suspended license just after 2:10 p.m. on Nov. 12 after he drove a motorhome into a cemetery, knocked over a large concrete planter and didn’t stop to report it. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1500 block of South Gold Street at 7:20 p.m. on Nov. 12. The suspect fled on foot before officers arrived. The case is under investigation. 

• A 31-year-old Chehalis woman was cited for hit-and-run and second-degree driving with a suspended license after she allegedly crashed into a parked vehicle in the 800 block of North Pearl Street and fled on foot just after 2:55 a.m. on Nov. 13. 

 

DUI 

• A 17-year-old male was arrested in the 500 block of East Maple Street at 2:55 a.m. on Nov. 12 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for DUI after he crashed into a power pole. The juvenile received medical treatment at Providence Centralia Hospital before he was booked. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• People reportedly trespassed on property in the 1700 block of Harrison Avenue just after 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 9 and left a car on the property. The subjects left the property after officers contacted them. 

• A homeless man from Centralia who reportedly parked his motorhome in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue for two days and refused to leave was trespassed from the area just before 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 11. 

• A homeless man from Minnesota was trespassed for life from a residential property in the 800 block of North Pearl Street at 1:20 p.m. on Nov. 12 after the homeowner found him in their side yard. The man reportedly entered through a front gate. Officers located him a few blocks away. 

 

Camping 

• A homeless man from Centralia who was found sleeping in a sleeping bag on the sidewalk in the 600 block of North Tower Avenue just after 1:50 p.m. on Nov. 11 was warned about camping in city limits. 

• A homeless person from Olympia was warned for sleeping on the sidewalk at the intersection of West Main Street and North Tower Avenue just after 10:05 p.m. on Nov. 12. 

• A 65-year-old Castle Rock man was cited for camping on a public roadway after he was found sleeping inside his motorhome in the 900 block of Old Airport Way just after 6:05 a.m. on Nov. 13. 

 

Malicious mischief 

• Just after 2:10 p.m. on Nov. 9, there was a report that a lock was cut off of a fence at a property in the 1000 block of J Street. 

 

Theft 

• A 23-year-old Centralia man was cited for shoplifting in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 9. 

• Two flags were reported stolen from the front yard of a residence in the 2100 block of North Pearl Street just before 8:55 a.m. on Nov. 10. Video footage reportedly shows two subjects pulling the flags off of poles and fleeing the area on foot at around 12:20 p.m. the day prior. “The suspects could not be identified due to poor lighting and video footage,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• A flag was reported stolen from in front of a residence in the 200 block of West Oakview Avenue just after 11:50 a.m. on Nov. 10. 

• Mail was reported stolen from a residence in the 1400 block of Oxford Avenue at approximately 4 p.m. on Nov. 11. 

• A 15-year-old homeless Centralia resident and a 23-year-old homeless Winlock resident were cited for third-degree theft in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 12 after they allegedly left a store with stolen items on their persons and in a backpack. 

• Items were reportedly shoplifted from a store in the 300 block of West Reynolds Avenue just before 7:45 p.m. on Nov. 12. The case is under investigation. 

 

Assault 

• Just before 8:05 p.m. on Nov. 9, a driver in the 1200 block of Harrison Avenue reported they “believed they were struck by an ‘orby’ gel pellet.” The driver was not injured and did not wish to pursue the matter “but wanted police to be aware,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

• An 18-year-old Rochester man was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office on fourth-degree assault charges after he allegedly shot at and hit several people with a water pellet toy gun outside a building in the 100 block of North Gold Street just before 7:10 p.m. on Nov. 5. The toy gun was multicolored and did not resemble a real gun, according to the Centralia Police Department. The man was reportedly the passenger in a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old Chehalis resident at the time of the shooting. The Chehalis resident has been referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office on fourth-degree assault charges. 

 

Vicious dog 

• A dog reportedly bit a delivery person through a fenced area in the 500 block of Hemlock Street just before 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 10. No injuries were reported. The case is under investigation. 

 

Traffic hazard 

• Officers responded to a report of a tree blocking the roadway in the 800 block of Ham Hill Road at 6:25 a.m. on Nov. 11. The Centralia Streets Department was called to remove the tree. 

 

Dispute 

• A dispute involving alcohol was reported in the 200 block of M Street just after 9:15 p.m. on Nov. 11. A homeowner reportedly asked a guest to leave after the guest attempted to “cause an altercation.” 

 

Burglary 

• A 32-year-old Oregon man was arrested in the 600 block of South Gold Street just after 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 12 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary after he allegedly reached through his neighbor’s window, ripped out the WiFi router and damaged other items. 

• A 41-year-old man from Minneapolis, Minnesota, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for residential burglary after he allegedly broke into a residence in the 800 block of North Pearl Street, took a shower and stole several items from the residence and a vehicle before leaving. The burglary was reported just after 6:25 p.m. on Nov. 12. The suspect reportedly left documents with his name on them inside the victim’s residence. Officers located and arrested him later that day. He reportedly had stolen items on his person at the time of his arrest. 

• A 23-year-old Centralia man and a 48-year-old Rochester man were arrested after they were found inside a vacant apartment in the 100 block of South Silver Street at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. The Centralia man was cited for first-degree criminal trespassing. The Rochester man was ultimately arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail on an outstanding warrant and for burglary and identity theft after he gave officers a false name and the Lewis County Jail declined to book him due to booking restrictions. 

 

Overdose 

• A male subject overdosed on suspected fentanyl in the 1100 block of Eckerson Road at 8:10 p.m. on Nov. 12. He was given Narcan and survived, according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Arson 

• A residential fire reported in the 1600 block of Military Road just before 8:40 p.m. on Nov. 12 is being investigated as an arson case. No arrests had been made as of Monday morning. The Riverside Fire Authority responded to the fire. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 



Harassment 

• A male driver was reportedly “making gun gestures and flipping … off” the driver of another vehicle at the intersection of Jackson Highway and Southeast Spring Street at approximately 8:35 a.m. on Nov. 9. 

• A “harassing driver” was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 7:45 a.m. on Nov. 10. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A male subject reportedly broke into a building in the 900 block of Northwest Pennsylvania Avenue “through a hole in the wall” just after 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 9. 

• A male shoplifting suspect was trespassed from a business in the 1000 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 9:55 a.m. on Nov. 9. 

• A male subject who was reportedly trying to break into vehicles in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just before 4:35 a.m. on Nov. 10 was trespassed from the area. 

• A case of trespassing was reported in the 1200 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Nov. 11. 

 

Burglary 

• A subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for a second-degree burglary reported in the 600 block of Northwest Quincy Place at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Nov. 9. 

• A subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for a second-degree burglary reported in the 300 block of Southwest Ninth Street at 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 9. 

• A subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for a residential burglary reported in the 300 block of Southwest Ninth Street just after 12:10 p.m. on Nov. 9. 

 

Possible DUI 

• A possible DUI was reported in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 11:05 a.m. on Nov. 9. Officers contacted the driver and observed no indicators of a DUI. The driver “admitted to being very tired” and left the area with no issues. 

• A possible DUI was reported in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Nov. 12. No arrests were made.

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• A homeless man reportedly lit a fire inside a garbage can in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9. The fire was extinguished. 

• Just after 8:55 p.m. on Nov. 9, a 19-year-old male subject called to report his parents were “forcing” him into a vehicle. He later clarified “they aren’t physically forcing him but (he) thinks if he runs they will grab him.” 

• A male subject reportedly climbed out of the bushes at the intersection of Northwest Prindle Street and Northwest Quincy Place just after 6:05 a.m. on Nov. 10. 

• A male subject reportedly “threw a sock with (an) orange peel” at a car at the intersection of Northeast Kresky Avenue and Northeast Hampe Way at approximately  6:50 a.m. on Nov. 10. The object hit the car but no damage was reported. 

• An adult was reportedly telling a screaming child to “shut up” in the 1400 block of Southwest Mills Avenue just before 7:10 p.m. on Nov. 10. 

• Suspicious circumstances reported in the 200 block of West Main Street just before 6:35 p.m. on Nov. 11 are under investigation. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• A 14-year-old male subject who was reportedly “breaking items and throwing items” inside a residence in the 400 block of Northeast Washington Avenue at 5:35 p.m. on Nov. 9 because his grandmother grounded him was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center. 

 

Theft 

• A battery for a power tool was reported stolen from the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 7:20 p.m. on Nov. 9. The reporting partly found the battery wrapped in a blanket roughly 30 minutes later. 

• Just before 8:25 p.m. on Nov. 12, a caller reported a male subject possibly stole a bike from the 200 block of Southwest James Street. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle, blocking collision reported at the intersection of southbound Interstate 5 and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just after 11:55 a.m. on Nov. 10. One of the involved vehicles reportedly ran a red light. 

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of southbound Interstate 5 and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way at approximately 12:50 p.m. on Nov. 10. Officers later confirmed this was not a new collision, but a tow-truck stopping to remove a vehicle that was damaged in an earlier collision. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:20 p.m. on Nov. 10. 

• Minor injuries were reported following a non-blocking, two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just before 6:40 p.m. on Nov. 11. 

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 11. One vehicle reportedly rear-ended the other. 

• A non-injury, non-blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just before 5:20 p.m. on Nov. 11. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision reported at the intersection of South Market Boulevard and Southwest Second Street just after 10 a.m. on Nov. 12 is under investigation. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 11:35 a.m. on Nov. 12. The reporting party said she backed into an unoccupied vehicle and was unable to contact the vehicle’s owner. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just after 2:25 p.m. on Nov. 10. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 100 block of Northeast Division Street just after 2:25 p.m. on Nov. 11. 

 

Shooting complaint 

• Gunshots were reported in the 10 block of Stan Hedwall Loop just after 2:40 p.m. on Nov. 10.

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A male subject was reportedly “yelling and cursing at staff” inside a business in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Nov. 10. The male reportedly had a pocket knife but “had not used (it) in (a) threatening way.”  

• A subject was warned for littering in the 300 block of North Market Boulevard just before 10:05 a.m. on Nov. 11. 

 

Dispute 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 1400 block of Southwest Mills Avenue at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Nov. 11.
