Sirens: 'Tens of thousands of dollars' stolen; Boy, 14, assaults grandmother; Rock, not gunshots, breaks window

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A possible theft was reported at a residence in the 300 block of South Yew Street at 8:15 a.m. on March 22.

• “Tens of thousands of dollars” were reported stolen from the 1100 block of South Pearl Street just before noon on March 22. The case is under investigation.

• A 36-year-old Chehalis man was referred to Centralia Municipal Court for third-degree theft after video surveillance caught him shoplifting in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue. 

• A 32-year-old Randle man was cited for shoplifting in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at 3:45 p.m. on March 24.

 

Criminal trespass

• A 52-year-old Centralia woman was arrested for trespassing in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street just before 10:25 a.m. on March 22.

• A subject was warned for trespassing on private property in the 1800 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 1:05 p.m. on March 22.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and southbound Interstate 5 just after 12:20 p.m. on March 22.

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and West High Street just after 2:30 p.m. on March 22. The Centralia Police Department did not disclose information on who was injured or the extent of their injuries.

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Harrison and Belmont avenues just before 9:55 a.m. on March 23.

• A minor, non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1000 block of Harrison Avenue just after 1:45 p.m. on March 24. 

 

Disorderly conduct

• A homeless Centralia resident was warned for discarding garbage on public property in the 100 block of East Pine Street at 1:45 p.m. on March 22.

• A subject was cited for disorderly conduct in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue at 12:30 p.m. on March 23 after officers responded to a report of a dispute.

• At approximately 10:55 p.m. on March 23, officers contacted several people inside a vehicle that “had been identified as driving around and shooting gel pellets at people” in the 400 block of West Main Street. The two people that were struck by the gel pellets were not injured and did not want to press charges against the suspects. The group was released and given a warning for their behavior.

• A disorderly woman was warned for “ringing doorbells and yelling and screaming” in the 2500 block of Borst Avenue at approximately 4:35 a.m. on March 24. Officers later contacted her for “yelling and screaming in the middle of the roadway and not wearing clothing.” She was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

• A 45-year-old Hillsboro, Oregon, man was arrested in the 500 block of South Iron Street at approximately 6 p.m. on March 24 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for disorderly conduct after he allegedly tried to start fights with several people.

 

Overdose

• Just before 10:45 p.m. on March 22, a homeless woman from Union called to report “she believed she was overdosing after drinking alcohol and using fentanyl.” The Riverside Fire Authority transported her to Providence Centralia Hospital for medical care.

 

Drug violation

• Three subjects were arrested for possession of suspected fentanyl in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue at approximately 2:15 a.m. on March 23.

 

Dispute

• A “bar/tavern dispute” was reported in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue at 12:35 a.m. on March 23. The victim advised dispatch that another male had spit on him, then fled out the back door.  Officers attempted to locate and contact the victim via his cellphone, but the victim did not answer.

 

Traffic problems

• Traffic complaints were reported around the HUB Sports Complex at the intersection of Johnson and Mt. Vista roads at 6:40 p.m. on March 23. “There were many vehicles parked in clearly marked ‘No Parking’ areas along Mt. Vista Road and Allen Road,” the Centralia Police Department reported. Parking tickets were issued on multiple vehicles. Several other vehicles were parked blocking part of the lanes of travel, at which time an officer had staff at the HUB announce vehicles needed to be moved or they would be towed. “All vehicles were moved within minutes of the announcement,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• The owner of a motorhome was warned for camping in his vehicle in a city-owned parking lot in the 100 block of Pioneer Way just before 12:15 a.m. on March 24. The vehicle’s owner moved the motorhome.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• Officers were called to an outlet store in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 12:50 p.m. on March 24 after store employees reported a couple was possibly “getting ready to shoplift.” When officers arrived on scene, the couple “suddenly left without purchasing anything.” They were driving a car with the plates removed. Officers contacted one of the subjects, who “explained she had purchased a sparkly plate ring and just hadn’t had time to put it on yet.,” according to the Centralia Police Department. The subject then put her license plate back on her car and left.

 

Assault

• At approximately 7:55 p.m. on March 24, a 43-year-old Centralia woman was cited for fourth-degree assault after she “pushed a health care worker while being treated” in the 900 block of South Scheuber Road.

 

Malicious mischief

• A 53-year-old Winlock woman was arrested in the 500 block of South Gold Street at 4:05 a.m. on March 25 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree malicious mischief after she allegedly “rammed her vehicle into her partner’s parked vehicle and (caused) extensive damage during a dispute.”

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Drug violation

• A student reportedly had marijuana at W.F. West High School in the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street just before 8:35 a.m. on March 22.

 



Suspicious circumstances

• A possible burglary was reported at a residence in the 10 block of Southwest Creekside Lane at 12:35 p.m. on March 22.

• Two male subjects were reportedly “trying to smash the locks off of two shipping containers” in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:40 p.m. on March 22.

• A male subject was reportedly dumpster diving in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just after 8:35 p.m. on March 22.

• Two separate callers reported a “loud boom” and “what sounded like a loud explosion” in the 100 block of Southeast Westside Drive just after 9:05 p.m. on March 22.

 

Theft

• Just after 12:40 p.m. on March 22, a citizen reported his roommate broke into his room in the 500 block of Southwest McFadden Avenue and stole his rolling tobacco kit.

• Just before 4:25 p.m. on March 22, a third-degree theft that occurred in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue the day prior was reported.

• Just after 9:40 a.m. on March 24, a citizen in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place reported scammers reportedly stole $1,600 from them.

 

Assault

• A fourth-degree assault reported in the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street at approximately 12:50 p.m. on March 22 is under investigation.

• A 14-year-old boy reportedly assaulted his grandma in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 3:05 p.m. on March 23. He was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for fourth-degree assault.

• A fourth-degree assault was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Cascade Avenue at approximately 12:15 p.m. on March 23.

 

Criminal trespass

• A criminal trespass was reported in the 600 block of South market Boulevard just after 7 p.m. on March 22.

• A subject reportedly trespassed at a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just before 10:40 p.m. on March 23.

• A subject was cited for trespassing in the 500 block of North Market Boulevard at 7:30 a.m. on March 24.

• A homeless man was reportedly sleeping outside of a business in the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue just before 6:20 a.m. on March 25.

 

Harassment

• A citizen in the 600 block of Northwest Arkansas Way reported receiving threatening text messages just after 7:40 p.m. on March 22.

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run to a garage was reported in the 900 block of Northwest Folsom Street at 9:10 p.m. on March 22.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 500 block of West Main Street just after 6:20 p.m. on March 23.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Southwest 11th Street and South Market Boulevard at approximately 4:15 p.m. on March 24.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 5:10 p.m. on March 24. The drivers reportedly got into a verbal dispute after the crash.

• At 7 p.m. on March 24, a citizen reported a neighbor backed into their garage in the 1900 block of Southeast Maple Drive and left the scene.

 

Malicious mischief

• At 9:40 p.m. on March 23, a resident in the 100 block of Southwest Phillips Court reported hearing gunshots then finding her home’s front window had been broken. Officers later determined a rock had been thrown through the window.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A man was reportedly “yelling and screaming at cars driving by” in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 12:35 p.m. on March 24.

 

Dispute

• A “family dispute” was reported in the 2100 block of SOuthwest Olympic Drive at approximately 6 p.m. on March 24.

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 63 illness-related calls, 18 injury-related calls, nine fire-related calls, four vehicle accidents, 10 non-emergency service calls, one ambulance request and five other calls.

 

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 165 inmates, including 152 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 123 were reported male and 29 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Monday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 25 inmates, including eight booked by the Centralia Police Department, 12 booked by the state Department of Corrections, two booked by the Lummi Nation, one booked by Chehalis Tribal Law Enforcement  and two booked by Chehalis Tribal Court.
