Sirens: Two trucks burn; Brass knuckles and firearms involved in altercation between eight juveniles; Residential burglary; Missing child found

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• Landscaping equipment was reported stolen from a business in the 400 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 18. 

• Checks were reported stolen from the 200 block of Northwest Cascade Avenue just after 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 18. The reporting party advised she had dropped the checks off at the post office and they did not make it to the final destination. 

• A woman who reportedly attempted to shoplift shoes and a bag from a business in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just after 6:50 p.m. on Aug. 19 was cited for third-degree theft. She was also trespassed from the business. 

• At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, a phone was reported stolen from the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue sometime in the morning. 

• A woman was arrested in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:40 p.m. on Aug. 22 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree burglary after she allegedly shoplifted shoes, a sweatshirt and a hat from a business. She was trespassed from the business. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A homeless man was reportedly “shouting things about murder” in the 200 block of Southeast Adams Avenue at approximately 9:55 a.m. on Aug. 18. 

• A male reportedly urinated outside a business in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at 4:35 p.m. on Aug. 20. 

• A homeless man was reportedly going through a dumpster and “throwing garbage everywhere” in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just after 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 23. 

 

Juvenile problem 

• Kids were reportedly knocking over garbage cans in the 10 block of Northeast Division Street just before 9:40 p.m. on Aug. 18. 

• A juvenile was reportedly obstructing a public servant in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just before 3:55 a.m. on Aug. 22. 

 

Missing people 

• Just after 6:50 p.m. on Aug. 19, a caller reported seeing an elderly female who he thought was missing 92-year-old Centralia woman Martha Norman in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue. Norman was found dead in Centralia on Aug. 22. 

• Just after 10:55 a.m. on Aug. 20, a caller reported they were “flagged down by a grandma looking for a missing child” from the 100 block of Villageway Drive. The child was located on Southwest Wilson Avenue and was returned to her grandmother at about noon that same day. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 2600 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue just after 7 p.m. on Aug. 19. 

• A motorhome reportedly hit a vehicle, taking the bumper off, in the 2600 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Aug. 20. No injuries were reported. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 7:20 p.m. on Aug. 20. 

• At 4 p.m. on Aug. 21, a non-injury, two-vehicle collision that occurred in the 800 block of West Main Street at 1 p.m. was reported. 

• One person reported head pain following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and state Route 6 at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 22. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 2600 block of Northeast Kresky Avenue just before 2:35 p.m. on Aug. 20. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 4 p.m. on Aug. 20. 

 

Suspicious circumstances 

• Just before 8:25 p.m. on Aug. 19, a caller reported a male subject at a bus stop in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue “has blood all over him.” Officers confirmed the subject had fallen and hit his face on the ground. 

• Possible squatters were reported in a house in the 600 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue just after 4:10 p.m. on Aug. 21. 

• Just before 8:04 p.m. on Aug. 21, an underage caller reported a male walked up to them and asked them if they wanted to buy pills. 

• A case involving suspicious circumstances that was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 4:35 a.m. on Aug. 22 is under investigation. 

• A case involving suspicious circumstances that was reported in the 300 block of Southeast Washington Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 22 is under investigation. 

 

Dogs in cars 

• Two dogs were reportedly locked in a hot car in the 2100 block of Jackson Highway just after 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 20. 

 

Assault 

• A male subject was arrested in the 300 block of Southwest Ninth Street just after 12:55 a.m. on Aug. 21 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault. 

• At least one subject was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for fourth-degree assault following a physical dispute between eight juveniles in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street that was reported just after 1:25 a.m. on Aug. 22. Brass knuckles and firearms were involved, according to the Chehalis Police Department. One 18-year-old male was treated for injuries. 

 

Disputes 



• A physical dispute between two men was reported in the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 21. 

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 5:20 p.m. on Aug. 21. 

• A dispute was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 8:40 p.m. on Aug. 21. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• Just after 12:40 p.m. on Aug. 22, a caller reported two male subjects with large bags were heading towards the railroad tracks in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue. The caller was “concerned they’ll be camping.” 

• Homeless people reportedly set up camp in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Aug. 22. 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Malicious mischief 

• Damage to the window of a business in the 600 block of West Main Street was reported just before 10:10 a.m. on Aug. 21. 

 

Theft 

• A Centralia man was issued a citation for third-degree theft for allegedly stealing items from a business in the 100 block of Harrison Avenue at 1 p.m. on Aug. 21. He was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on five outstanding Centralia Municipal Court warrants.

• Two suspects reportedly stole from a retail store in the 1300 block of Lum Road at approximately 6:50 p.m. on Aug. 21. The suspects, who are tied to thefts at two other retail stores, left the scene before officers arrived. The case is under investigation. 

• A bicycle was reported stolen from the 100 block of West Maple Street just after 10:55 a.m. on Aug. 22. 

 

Burglary 

• A residential burglary reported in the 2700 block of North Pearl Street just after 2:55 p.m. on Aug. 21 is under investigation. 

 

Fraud 

• Fraudulent charges to a credit card were reported in the 1100 block of South Scheuber Road just after 9:45 a.m. on Aug. 22. 

 

Criminal trespass  

• Two homeless men were trespassed from personal property in the 1500 block of West Reynolds Avenue at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Aug. 21. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run reported in the 1000 block of Kresky Avenue just after 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 21 is under investigation. 

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of North Tower Avenue and East Third Street just before 4:55 a.m. on Aug. 22. 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 300 block of Byrd Street just after 8:05 a.m. on Aug. 22. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Maple and North Pearl streets at approximately 7:25 a.m. on Aug. 22. The at-fault vehicle reportedly made an illegal left turn across a lane of travel into an oncoming vehicle. 

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of West Main Street and North Tower Avenue just after 9 a.m. on Aug. 22. The Centralia Police Department did not disclose information about who was injured or the extent of their injuries. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1800 block of Cooks Hill Road  just after 11:55 p.m. on Aug. 22. 

 • A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Yew and Elm streets just before 12:55 p.m. on Aug. 22. 

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of South Pearl and West Plum streets at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Aug. 22. The Centralia Police Department did not disclose information about who was injured or the extent of their injuries.

• A non-injury, single-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of West Cherry and Alder streets just after 2:55 p.m. on Aug. 22. 

Overdose 

• Just after 1:25 a.m. on Aug. 22, there was a report of a homeless man overdosing in the 1200 block of Mellen Street. Officers arrived and contacted the man, who was “alert and denied help from paramedics,” according to the Centralia Police Department. 

 

Vehicle fire 

• Officers responded to assist the Riverside Fire Authority. with a vehicle fire at an apartment complex parking lot in the 300 block of Borst Avenue just after 5:15 a.m. on Aug. 23. Ultimately, two trucks were completely burnt up and at the time of the report, it was not known what started the fire, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case is still being investigated to possibly determine the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 145 inmates, including 132 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 104 were reported male and 28 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
