Sirens: Vehicle crashes into Coal Creek; Chainsaw, pry bar and ax used in attempted burglary; PIT maneuver for DUI suspect

Disorderly conduct

• A man and a woman reportedly got into a physical dispute in the 600 block of Northwest Arkansas Way just after 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 5. During the fight, the woman reportedly broke a vehicle window with keys. At least one of the subjects was cited for disorderly conduct.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Airport Road at approximately 10:50 a.m. on Jan. 5.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Louisiana Avenue and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Jan. 5.

• An elderly man had a possible medical emergency during/after a vehicle collision in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 6. The man’s vehicle reportedly struck three vehicles in a parking lot.

• A vehicle reportedly drove off the roadway in the 2000 block of Northwest National Avenue, traveled 12 feet down an embankment and became partially submerged in Coal Creek at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 6. Medical aid responded but no injuries were reported.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 10 block of Southwest Fifth Street just before 10:10 a.m. on Jan. 7.

 

Harassment

• At 10:55 a.m. on Jan. 5, a caller reported a neighbor was harassing her in the 600 block of Northwest Ohio Avenue.

• Just after 5:25 p.m. on Jan. 6, a caller in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street reported her upstairs neighbor was harassing her by “leaving notes in her door accusing (her) of smoking pot.” She was advised to apply for a civil no-contact order.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A subject was reportedly trying vehicle door handles in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 3:50 p.m. on Jan. 5.

• Just before 6:10 p.m. on Jan. 6, a caller reported it looked like “someone tried to break into her van door” and “let air out of (her) tire.”

• A male subject was reportedly siphoning gas out of a car in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 5:25 a.m. on Jan. 7.

 

Theft

• A woman reportedly shoplifted makeup from a store in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard just before 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 5.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1300 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue just before 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 5 is under investigation.

 

Criminal trespass

• Two homeless people were trespassed from a property in the 200 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 5.

• Just before 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, a caller reported a male subject had been sleeping on a stoop in the 200 block of Northwest State Avenue for the last week or two.

• A homeless man reportedly trespassed on a property in the 200 block of Northwest State Avenue at approximately 5:55 p.m. on Jan. 7.

 

Burglary

• An attempted burglary was reported in the 1900 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3 a.m. on Jan. 7. Two male suspects allegedly used “a chainsaw, pry bars and (an) ax” to try and get into a building while a third male waited in a vehicle. The vehicle left the scene before officers arrived. Officers confirmed there was possible damage to a bay door, but the suspects had not gained entry. The suspects were not located at the time of the report.

 

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Welfare check



• Officers conducted a welfare check on three people passed out inside a vehicle parked in the 100 block of West High Street at 11 a.m. on Jan. 6. Officers found drugs and drug paraphernalia around the passenger compartment. One occupant, a 31-year-old Longview man, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for an outstanding felony warrant.

 

Disorderly conduct

• A disorderly male subject was reportedly “knocking on doors and disturbing residents” of a trailer park in the 1700 block of Cooks Hill Road at 12:10 p.m. on Dec. 6. When contacted by an officer, the man “demanded high-ranking federal officers be called to help him.” The man reportedly “admitted to being high on meth and refused any local services,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• A 60-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue just after 5:45 a.m. on Jan. 7 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass for allegedly trespassing on a property and “removing all his clothing, leaving him completely naked for the public to see,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

Assault

• A 54-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1300 block of North Pearl Street at 3 p.m. on Jan. 6 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, domestic violence.

 

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 3:15 p.m. on Jan. 6.

• A hit-and-run reported in the 300 block of Reynolds Avenue just before 3:20 p.m. on Jan. 7 is under investigation.

 

Vehicle accident

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of North Pearl and West Sixth streets at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Jan. 7.

 

Eluding police

• A stolen white Honda Civic was located in a parking lot in the 100 block of High Street just after 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 6. The vehicle eluded police when an officer tried to stop it. It was last seen going northbound on Interstate 5. “Officers did not pursue the stolen vehicle due to current state law,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

 

DUI

• At 6:40 p.m. on Jan. 6, a caller reported a Maroon Chevrolet Lumina struck a parked vehicle in the 800 block of West Main Street. The caller told officers they followed the vehicle, observing it swerving on the roadway. Officers were able to locate the Lumina and used a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver after the driver drove the Lumina around a police car. The driver, a 76-year-old Centralia man, was arrested at the intersection of North Ash and West Main streets and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI.

 

Malicious mischief

• A 36-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1500 block of Lewis Street just before 4:05 a.m. on Jan. 7 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for third-degree malicious mischief after he allegedly damaged property during a dispute.

 

Drug violations

• A 43-year-old Vancouver man was arrested in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 7 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver after officers found narcotics and supplies to distribute drugs in his vehicle.

• A 41-year-old Centralia woman was arrested in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue at 3:05 p.m. on Jan. 7 and was booked into the Lewis County jail on an outstanding warrant and for two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver after officers found meth, fentanyl pills, fentanyl powder and supplies to distribute drugs in her vehicle.

 

Theft

• Just after 6:20 p.m. on Jan. 7, a male suspect allegedly reached over the counter at a convenience store in the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue, “grabbed a pack of cigarettes out of the employee’s hand, then fled the store on foot.” Officers were unable to locate the suspect. The case is under investigation.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 155 inmates, including 142 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 122 were reported male and 20 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
