Sirens: 'Vicious dog' shot in Centralia; Kitten too high in tree to be rescued; Graffiti reported in several locations; DUI arrests

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Malicious mischief 

• Vandalism to a residence in the 100 block of North Oak Street was reported just after 8:45 a.m. on Nov. 1. No suspects have been identified. 

• Vandalism to a business in the 400 block of North Tower Avenue was reported just before 8:55 a.m. on Nov. 1. No suspects have been identified. 

• At 9:15 a.m. on Nov. 1, a caller reported the phrase “live life while you can” had been sprayed in purple paint onto a business in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue. No suspects have been identified. 

• At approximately 11:05 a.m. on Nov. 1, a caller reported the words “no parking” had been sprayed in purple paint onto a car in the 200 block of North Tower Avenue. No suspects have been identified. 

• Just after 1:40 p.m. on Nov. 1, there was a report that a business in the 400 block of West Main Street had been tagged with “CBSx3” in blue paint. 

• Graffiti was reported on a window to a Centralia College building in the 200 block of Centralia College Boulevard just before 4:35 p.m. on Nov. 1. 

 

Theft

• At 9 a.m. on Nov. 1, an RV theft that occurred in the 1600 block of Lum Road sometime in August was reported. 

• A 34-year-old Chehalis man was cited for shoplifting from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at 12:35 p.m. on Nov. 1. 

• Items were reported stolen from a hardware store in the 1600 block of Harrison Avenue just after 3:40 p.m. on Nov. 2. The case is under investigation. 

• Several knives and over $760 in cash were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road at 6:20 a.m. on Nov. 3. The victim indicated the vehicle may have been unlocked. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A 55-year-old Alaska man was trespassed from a business in the 100 block of North Tower Avenue just before 4:25 p.m. on Nov. 1. 

 

Department assists 

• Just after 5:25 p.m. on Nov. 1, officers were asked to help an intoxicated male “who had been arguing with himself earlier and was now passed out on the sidewalk” in the 100 block of North Tower Avenue. The male asked officers to get him to the hospital. Officers called an aid car. 

• Officers were called to help get a kitten out of a tree in the 1000 block of G Street just after 5:25 p.m. on Nov. 1. The kitten was too high up, so the task was referred to a kitten rescue service. 

 

Vicious dog shot

• At approximately 6:35 a.m. on Nov. 2, officers responded to a vicious dog complaint from the 1000 block of West Second Street in which one of the reporting parties had shot one of the two dogs that had run onto his property and chased his wife. The wounded dog went back to the dog owner’s residence. The owner was not home at the time but a woman living on the property was present and secured the residence. Several attempts were made to contact the dog owner by phone and social media. When officers could not contact the dog owner, the woman was able to retrieve the wounded dog from inside the residence, at which time a Centralia Police Department community service officer transported the dog to a local vet for treatment. A short time later, the dog’s owner was located and given a courtesy transport to the vet clinic to be with his dog. The case is under investigation and animal at large charges are being considered at this time.

 

Scam 

• Just after 11:45 a.m. on Nov. 2, a resident in the 100 block of Halliday Road reported receiving a phone call from a scammer requesting personal information. 

 

DUI 

• A 27-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1900 block of South Gold Street just before 10:40 p.m. on Nov. 2 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence and hit-and-run. 

• A 30-year-old Rainier man was arrested in the 1100 block of Belmont Avenue just before 3 a.m. on Nov. 3 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for driving under the influence after officers found him passed out in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, which was stopped in the roadway. 

 

Vehicle collision 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Yew Street and Centralia College Boulevard just after 7:35 a.m. on Nov. 3. One vehicle failed to yield the right of way to another vehicle. 

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• A Nintendo Switch was reported stolen from the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 8 a.m. on Nov. 1. 



• A female subject was cited for shoplifting in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 5:50 p.m. on Nov. 1. 

 

Criminal trespass 

• A disorderly male subject who was “walking around, cussing (and) screaming” in the 2100 block of North National Avenue was trespassed from a property in the area. 

• A male subject who was reportedly “injecting drugs” in the bathroom of a business in the 300 block of Northwest North Street at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 1 was trespassed from the business. 

• A male subject who was reportedly going through the trash behind a property in the 10 block of Northeast Cascade Avenue just after 4:25 p.m. on Nov. 1 was trespassed from the property. 

• A subject was reportedly trespassing on property in the 400 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue just before 5:35 p.m. on Nov. 2. 

 

Vehicle accidents 

• A non-injury, blocking, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northeast Division Street and Northeast Washington Avenue at 12:20 p.m. on Nov. 1. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 4 p.m. on Nov. 1. 

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Nov. 2. 

 

Hit-and-run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 400 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just before 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 2. 

• A hit-and-run reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 9:10 p.m. on Nov. 2 is under investigation. 

 

Scams 

• A fraudulent check was reported in the 100 block of North Market Boulevard just after 3 p.m. on Nov. 1. 

• Just before 3:50 p.m. on Nov. 1, a caller in the 1000 block of Northwest Maryland Avenue reported he paid $900 to “some guy … who said he would work on his car” and the caller was now unable to get ahold of the “guy.” 

• A jewelry scam was reported in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 10:50 a.m. on Nov. 2. 

• A fake $100 bill was reported in the 600 block of Northwest Arkansas Way just after 12:35 p.m. on Nov. 2. 

 

Disorderly conduct 

• A male subject was reportedly “banging on (a) door” and “threatening to kick (the) door in” in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at 2:50 a.m. on Nov. 2. 

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A suspicious male subject was reportedly looking into a business’s window at the intersection of Northeast Kresky Avenue and Exhibitor Road just after 4:20 p.m. on Nov. 2. 

• A possibly intoxicated woman reportedly drove away from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 5:45 p.m. on Nov. 2. The woman reportedly had two children in the vehicle with her. 

• A male subject was reportedly “tweaking out” and “messing with cars” in the 500 block of Southwest William Avenue just before 1:55 a.m. on Nov. 3. 

 

Dispute 

• A physical dispute was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 2. One subject was cited for violation of a protection order. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 138 inmates, including 125 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 103 were reported male and 22 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
