A 33-year-old Missouri woman was hit and killed Monday evening on I-5 in Lacey, triggering a six-hour traffic jam.

About 5:50 p.m., Washington State Patrol reports that the woman entered the northbound lanes between Marvin Road and Carpenter Road and was hit by a car. She died at the scene. The woman has not been identified.

The 48-year-old Idaho man who crashed into the woman was not impaired, Trooper John Dattilo said Monday night.

The crash blocked all lanes of northbound I-5 for more than six hours.

The backup grew to three miles at one point and traffic ultimately was diverted at Exit 109 and Martin Way East, according to the state Department of Transportation. Some drivers were directed to turn around in the median and head south.
