State Senate will soon accept applications for student pages

Are you a local student who wants to learn more about the legislative process? The state Senate will soon accept applications for Senate pages.

Senate pages serve for one week of the session, where they work with other students from across the state who are interested in politics and government. To be eligible, a student must be between 14 and 16 years old and have permission from a parent or guardian.

Applicants should also receive a letter of recommendation from either a teacher or principal at their school. Pages receive a stipend of $65 a day. They must provide a copy of their Social Security card. Pages can serve without a Social Security card if they do not receive a stipend.

The application window begins on Nov. 1.

To learn more about the program, contact Myra Hernandez, the legislature’s civic education director, at P.O. Box 40482, Olympia, WA, 98504, or by phone at 360-786-7498. To learn more about the program, go to leg.wa.gov/Internships/Pages/Contact.aspx.

The 60-day legislative session begins Jan. 8.
