A call reporting a man was slumped behind the wheel of a pickup truck in Centralia on Monday resulted in officers recovering a vehicle that was stolen from a local construction company in April.

The call came in at approximately 7:40 a.m. on May 15, according to call logs. When officers arrived, they reportedly noticed drug paraphernalia on the seat next to the driver. The man, later identified as Anthony A. Shunn Sr., 38, of Olympia, reportedly woke up and told officers the truck “was his cousin’s truck but was unable to remember his cousin’s name,” according to call logs. When questioned further about the truck and the drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, Shunn allegedly “tried to run but was caught as he jumped over a fence.”

He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, obstructing a law enforcement officer and for multiple outstanding warrants for unrelated cases.

Once officers got a closer look at the vehicle after Shunn’s arrest, they reportedly saw the vehicle’s VIN number didn’t match the license plate on the truck, which had been reported stolen in April.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Shunn was in custody at the Lewis County Jail on a combined total of $22,000 bail.
