The Lewis County Animal Shelter will host “Sweethearts for Shelter Pets,” a dog adoption event offering reduced adoption fees of $100 per adult dog, from Tuesday, Feb. 10, through Saturday, Feb. 14.

The usual cost to adopt is $230.

The adoption event will be held daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lewis County Animal Shelter, 560 Centralia Alpha Road, a news release from Lewis County Public Health and Social Services stated.

Community members looking to add a new companion to their household are encouraged to visit the shelter during event hours to meet available dogs and learn more about the adoption process, the release stated.

All dogs adopted during the event will be spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated prior to going to their homes. Cash or card payments will be accepted.

Lewis County Animal Shelter Manager Brian Warren visited the Lewis County Board of Commissioners weekly business meeting to sign off on the price reduction, which the board approved unanimously.

During the Tuesday meeting, Commissioner Sean Swope asked if the adoption events and social media campaigns organized by shelter staff have in the past helped the shelter find homes for more animals. According to Warren’s remarks, the efforts have helped to an extent, but more work is still needed to find good homes for dogs in the shelter.
