T-Birds Take 2A EvCo Title With Win Over Wolves

The Tumwater boys basketball team’s 58-38 win over Black Hills on Tuesday wasn’t just its second rivalry win of the season; this one clinched the 2A EvCo crown for the T-Birds, who reign supreme over the league yet another year.

Luke Brewer led the Thunderbirds with 18 points, and Andrew Collins pitched in 11.

Like Tumwater’s earlier win over Black Hills, the Thunderbirds did it first with their defense, holding the Wolves to just two points in the first quarter — without hitting a field goal — and 11 in the first half. Black Hills didn’t crack double digits in a period until the fourth, but which point it was much too late.

Tumwater finishes the regular season on a nine-game winning streak, and will now get an extended break heading into the 2A District IV tournament. The Thunderbirds will face the winner of the pigtail game between the 2A EvCo’s No. 4 seed and the 2A GSHL’s No. 5.

Black Hills still has one more game to go in the regular season — against Rochester on Thursday — but has locked down the No. 2 seed in the EvCo, and will open up its district run against the GSHL’s No. 3.
