Taking it to Hockinson early in the afternoon at Borst Park, the Centralia softball team dispatched the Hawks in its home opener, 13-3 in six innings Wednesday night.

Though the Tigers got through nearly four innings of action against Shelton in their second game of a doubleheader, the game was halted due to rain and will be resumed at a different time. Centralia led the Highclimbers, 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth when the game was paused.

In the game the Tigers did complete, however, the Centralia bats came alive.

Hollynn Wakefield went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, three RBIs, and a home run to lead the way. Jimena Luis added a 2 for 4 line with two runs scored, Lauren Wasson batted 3 for 4 with two runs scored, and Makayla Chavez went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

In the circle, freshman McKenna Smith threw four innings, allowing just two hits with one unearned run allowed with two punchouts. Payton Baumel relieved the freshman to throw two innings. Baumel gave up two runs, with just one earned, on four hits and two walks.

The Tigers will make up the second game with the Highclimbers at a date to be determined. They’re next scheduled contest is against rival W.F. West on Friday back at Borst Park.
