Tigers Explode in Late Innings to Down Beavers

Posted

A near stalemate all game, the Centralia softball team clung to a 1-0 lead over Tenino through five innings, with freshman Payton Baumel and Holllyn Wakefield combining for all seven innings pitched, allowing just four hits and no earned runs.

But an explosion in the sixth and seventh innings, where the Tigers scored 13 runs, was enough to do the Beavers in, 14-1, Friday afternoon in Tenino.

The Beavers committed 10 errors as a team, not helping out pitcher Emily Baxter, who threw all seven innings and allowed just seven hits and five earned runs with 11 punchouts.

Baxter also accounted for Tenino’s lone run, as the Beavers struggled to get going at the plate, collecting four hits. Two of those hits came from Alivia Hunter.

But it was another dominant performance put on by the Tigers (2-0), who crushed 2B Toutle Lake Thursday afternoon and put together another strong performance against the 1A Beavers Friday.

Jadyn Hawley had two hits and three runs to go along with a triple to lead Centralia at the plate, while Wakefield hit for two RBI with two runs scored.

The Tigers will look to stay unbeaten against Shelton on Wednesday, while the Beavs look to snap a losing skid against 3A Yelm on Tuesday.
