Tigers Hook Fishermen With Swarming Press

Napavine forced Ilwaco into 27 turnovers with a vicious press and the Tigers came away with a 58-34 victory on the road Monday in non-league action.

The Tigers’ defense put the clamps on Pacific 2B League’s Fishermen, swiping 22 steals, led by Makensee Taliaferro’s game-high seven steals, while Taylen Evander added four and Keira O’Neill and Grace Gall each stole three a piece.

“I thought our kids played hard tonight and I thought we were balanced in our scoring,” Napavine coach Shane Schutz said.

Nine Tigers in total scored, with Hayden Kaut leading the way with a game-high 11 points. Galla and Avery Schutz each scored eight, while Gall tallied seven rebounds and Schutz dished out five assists.

The Tigers also had an excellent night rebounding, winning the rebound battle 49-32, with Jessie McCoy pulling down a game-high 10 boards and scoring seven points. Natalya Marcial hauled in eight rebounds as well to go with seven points.

Napavine (3-2) hosts Mabton at 1 p.m. in a non-league game on Wednesday.
