Tigers Pile it on Vikings in Non-League Tilt

Napavine knocked 10 hits and held Mossyrock to just two as the Tigers completed an 11-1, run-rule, non-league victory over the Vikings at home in five innings.

Napavine led 3-1 after three innings before the Tigers plated four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to end the game early.

“We had one bad inning and everything snowballed on us,” Mossyrock coach Keith Coleman said. “We’re just young and learning. Gotta learn how to shake off mistakes and refocus. But give Napavine credit. They ran the bases hard and put a lot of pressure on us.”

Four Tigers tallied multi-hit games, led by Halley Denault and Grace Gall, who each went 2 for 3 at the plate. Makensee Taliaferro and Tanner Simpson each went 2 for 4.

Patricia Helsing (three innings) and Cailyn Milton (two innings) combined for seven strikeouts on the mound for Napavine.

“I was really impressed with our pitching,” Tigers coach Josh Fay said. “Our baserunning was great tonight, we want to be really aggressive and they did a good job today with that.”

Mossyrock’s only two hits came from Erin Cournyer (1 for 2 with a double) and Lois Stone (1 for 2). Cournyer pitched all five innings as well, surrendering 10 hits with two Ks.

Mossyrock (2-2) heads to league rival Naselle on Monday. Napavine (2-0) hosts La Center on Monday in a non-league match.
