The Napavine volleyball team pulled away late in Morton on Tuesday, topping Morton-White Pass 25-18, 25-11, 25-8 in a C2BL matchup to remain perfect in league play.
While the scoreline suggests a dominant victory for the Tigers (10-1, 4-0 C2BL), the T-Wolves (4-7, 0-4 C2BL) hung around, forcing the Tigers to earn every point.
“The girls kept trying, they were trying to get things going,” Napavine coach Monica Dailey said. “But MWP is really scrappy. We struggled getting the ball on the ground. They dug up a lot.”
The Timberwolves offense also had a few bright spots, as MWP coach Jamie Brazil said that their passing may have been the best it's been all season, a result of extra preparation in practice. They struggled to finish points off, however.
“We just had trouble attacking the ball,” Brazil said. “Our hitting was off and we just didn’t connect.”
As a result, the Tigers were eventually able to kick it into gear. Keira O’Neill finished with 14 kills and four blocks, Dakota Hamilton added nine assists and eight kills, and Grace Gall and Emily Kang each tallied six digs.
Kang was brilliant serving, finishing with four aces. Briza Contreras was perfect from the service line, finishing with the night 100 percent serving.
MWP will head to Onalaska on Thursday, while the Tigers will host Adna, which handed them their only loss of the season in late September.
While that first matchup didn’t count towards the league standings, this second one will leave just one of them unbeaten in the C2BL standings.
