The Napavine volleyball team earned another close win on Tuesday, topping Kalama in five sets 25-16, 25-18, 21-25, 23-25, 15-11.

The Tigers (4-0) came out on fire, according to coach Monica Dailey, racing out to a 2-0 lead.

“We were doing a lot of good things, being super aggressive, making good choices on hitting selections,” Dailey said.

In the third and fourth sets, however, the Tigers “fell apart,” making several errors that, while fixable, frustrated the entire team.

“We’re our own worst enemy right now,” Dailey said. “We beat ourselves. Those are fixable things, but it’s frustrating. They’ll get it turned around.”

Despite their struggles in those sets on Tuesday, the Tigers turned it around in time to salvage the fifth set and come away with the win to stay unbeaten.

Keira O’Neill was stellar at the net, collecting 20 kills and blocking three balls. Dakota Hamilton recorded a double-double with 21 kills and 16 assists while also tallying six aces.

Grace Gall led the team defensively with 22 digs, but Emily Kang wasn’t far behind with 18. Jessie McCoy was efficient passing the ball, collecting 19 assists.

Of Napavine’s four wins on the season, three have come in five sets. Dailey said that while it is nice to see them pulling out close games, she also knows that they are capable of finishing them in three or four.

“When they’re hot, they’re hot,” Dailey said.

The Tigers will look to remain unbeaten on Thursday, when they’ll head south to Cathlamet to take on Wahkiakum at 7 p.m.
