Tigers take comfortable shutout over Riverhawks

The Napavine girls soccer team took the lead in the first 10 minutes at home Monday over Toledo and never looked in too much danger of losing it, rolling to a 4-0 win in Central 2B League play.

Hannah Fay scored what turned out to be the game-winner for the Tigers (6-2-3, 4-0-1 C2BL) in the ninth minute. In the 22nd, Fay nearly had a second on a short-range blast off a long throw-in from Maya Kunkel; it was saved by Toledo keeper Hope Gould, only to bounce to Grace Pancake, who scored on the rebound.

At halftime, the Tigers pulled keeper Taylen Evander — who didn’t have to face a shot in the opening half — to the outfield. It took her just three minutes to make the most of her time at winger, taking a feed from Hayden Kaut and scoring her first goal of the season before being dog-piled by her teammates.

The score stayed at 3-0 for half an hour, before Kunkel set up Ava Wilson for one last goal. The Tigers ended up out-shooting the Riverhawks (3-7-1, 2-4-0 C2BL) 10-1 on the evening, with Avery Schutz making one save in a second half that was generally one-way traffic.

Still unbeaten in league play, Napavine will stay at home to host Toutle Lake on Wednesday. Toledo, meanwhile, will try to get back to winning ways at home against Forks.
