The Morton-White Pass boys basketball team came away with a victory in a must-win game against Kalama on Tuesday, as the Timberwolves topped the Chinooks 66-50.
The Timberwolves (7-12, 3-9 C2BL) came out firing, scoring 21 points to take a double-digit lead after one period of play.
After an even second, the Chinooks slowly chipped away in the third quarter, trimming the MWP lead to just two.
“We kind of got a little flat in the middle (quarters),” Morton-White Pass coach Kevin Dunlap said. “I told the seniors, it’s now or your last game is Thursday.”
The T-Wolves responded accordingly in the fourth, outscoring Kalama 20-6 to put the game away.
Judah Kelly had another big night, leading the way with 36 points, while Tony Belgiorno added 17. Keaton Thompson led the way on the boards with 11 rebounds and added four points.
With a loss, the Timberwolves would have been eliminated from district tournament contention. Instead, at 3-9 in league play, the T-Wolves and Chinooks are now tied for the seventh and final district tournament spot.
With the same result on Thursday, the two teams will meet for a third time on Friday in Toutle Lake, and the winner will advance to the district tournament. Kalama will host Toutle Lake and Morton-White Pass will head to Napavine.
