Scoring over 100 points in just 32 minutes of high school hoops action Saturday night, the Morton-White Pass boys basketball team defeated Eatonville, 103-61, in non-league play.
The Timberwolves scored at least 20 points in each frame, and had 31 in the second quarter to take a fairly commanding lead heading into the half.
The scoring didn’t stop there, with the T-Wolves dropping another 51 points in the second half to secure the sound win over a tough and tall 1A squad.
“The kids were excited,” T-Wolves coach Chad Cramer said. “Scoring 100 is not a goal of ours, but it's a good sign that we’re scoring well. They’re a good team and we came out and scored well. We put quarters like that together in most games, but we haven’t sustained it for four quarters. We sustained it for four quarters, and a couple guys got loose.”
Hunter Hazen had another strong scoring night, dropping 36 points, with Jake Cournyer not far behind with 28 of his own.
With over 50 fouls called in a tightly-officiated contest, Cramer credited his players for adjusting to the style of play in a game filled with offensive possessions and whistles.
“Our guys did a good job adjusting to the officiating a little better than they did and stayed out of foul trouble for the most part,” Cramer said. “Staying balanced is how we can win. Tonight we won a bit through foul trouble and adjusting to refs and finding hot shooters. We have to be able to win in a fast tempo game and a slow tempo game down the line as well and through our bigs and guards.”
Morton-White Pass (4-1, 2-0 C2BL) returns to league play against Onalaska on Tuesday.
