Titan Comeback Bid Falls Short in Season Opener

Posted

After its game against Forks was postponed earlier this week, the Pe Ell-Willapa Valley baseball team finally got out on the field, and fell in its season opener to Naselle, 9-5, after falling into an early hole.

The Comets rocketed out to an 8-0 lead, with six runs in the second inning and two in the third, but then the Titans settled in. Thanks to a couple RBI from the Keeton brothers, Garrett and Connor, PWV put five runs on  the board in the fifth inning to trim the deficit to just three runs after a tough start.

But after Naselle responded with a run of its own in the fifth, and two shutout innings, the Comets closed it out for the win.

Hudson Barnum starred on the mound for the Titans, pitching three innings of relief and striking out six with just one earned run to his name.

The Titans will look to pick up a win next time out against Chief Leschi in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
