Titans swept by Spartans in road doubleheader

The Pe Ell-Willapa Valley softball team couldn’t get it going offensively in two games on Tuesday, as the Titans were swept by Forks, 4-2 and 8-5, in a road P2BL doubleheader.

It’s PWV’s first two losses of the season after a 6-0 start to the year.

In Game 1, a sacrifice fly from Jillian Hodel gave the Titans (6-2, 2-2 P2BL) a 1-0 lead in the third. After the Spartans tied it up in the fourth, Karli Phelps delivered an RBI single in the fifth to give the Titans the lead right back.

Forks plated three in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead, however, and the Titans never threatened in the seventh.

The Titans faced a larger deficit in the nightcap.

After opening the scoring in the bottom of the first, Forks put up two in the second and five in the third to take a 7-1 lead. PWV responded with three in the fourth to cut the deficit in half, but the hole was too big to climb out of.

Hodel went 2 for 4 in the second game with a double and an RBI, while Tylar Keeton also went 2 for 4 and drove in a pair.

The Titans are off until April 10, when they’ll host Raymond-South Bend in a doubleheader.
