A Toledo man charged with a felony for allegedly assaulting a woman on Sept. 16 is out of custody after posting $75,000 bail.

The suspect, identified as Shawn Alan Lohrengel, 51, was arrested after the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office received a report from the victim’s mother, who said she received a text from her daughter reading, “He stomped on my phone, my screen is all cracked, my nose is still dripping, and he broke at least two ribs,” according to court documents.

A responding deputy reportedly confirmed the woman had sustained significant injuries, including a black eye and a laceration on her nose.

When questioned by the deputy, the woman reportedly “said she had fallen down the stairs and did not want to talk,” according to court documents.

After a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Lohrengel’s vehicle and “asked him if anything had happened,” Lohrengel allegedly “explained that (the woman) had fallen down the stairs, but she was okay,” according to court documents.

Lohrengel was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for second-degree assault, domestic violence. However, he posted $75,000 bail over the weekend and was out of custody at the time of his Monday, Sept. 18, preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court.

All parties agreed Monday to allow Lohrengel to remain out of custody on the bail he already posted. A no-contact order protecting the victim is in place.

Arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 21.
