Toledo rides huge first half to blowout win over Toutle Lake

The Toledo football team remained unbeaten with a dominant victory on Friday night, beating Toutle Lake 56-0.

“The guys played well,” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said. “We didn’t have a great week of practice, but they stepped up today and played Toledo football. I’m proud of the way we responded”

The Riverhawks (3-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to touchdowns from Ethen Carver and Trevin Gale, and they quickly put the game out of reach in the second quarter.

They exploded for 28 points in the second frame, including a blocked punt return touchdown by Bayron Rodriguez, to take a 42-0 lead into the break.

The Riverhawks moved the ball well on the ground and through the air, as they amassed 147 rushing yards and 182 passing yards. Eli Weeks threw for three touchdown passes, two of them to Gale, and Carver ran in two.

Ryder Buswell and Rowan Feignbaum put the finishing touches on the blowout with touchdown runs of their own in the second half.

The Ducks had no answers for the Toledo defense, a unit that Christensen said he is especially proud of.

The Riverhawks will try to move to 4-0 next week when they host Wahkiakum. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
