Trailblazers Go 3-1 Against Walla Walla Over Weekend

Centralia College’s baseball team moved above .500 for the season over the weekend, going 3-1 in a pair of NWAC doubleheaders against Walla Walla.

The Trailblazers won 6-5 and lost 8-3 on Saturday, then swept the Warriors 8-6 and 10-5 on Sunday in the Hub City.

Centralia improved to 7-5 on the season.

“We are very excited about where we are at as a program after 12 games,” Blazer coach Ben Harley said. “Our guys continue to battle every game and are learning how to win baseball games at this level.”

River Terry and Nic Ely both went 2 for 2 with a double in Saturday’s 6-5 win, with Ely knocking in a pair of runs. Terry added an RBI and Tyler Harries doubled and drove in a run.

Hunter Stewart got the win on the mound, tossing four no-hit innings in relief with four strikeouts. Justin Morgan started and went 4 ⅔ innings, fanning six and giving up one earned run.

Jaden Fulsher homered for Centralia in Saturday’s 8-3 nightcap loss. Tony Groninger went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in the Blazers’ other two runs.



Centralia tallied nine hits in Sunday’s 8-6 Game 1 win. Harries went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Casen Taggart was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Groninger doubled and drove in a run.

Garrett Holpuch worked the first five innings, striking out five and allowing three earned runs on eight hits. James Nelson tossed two innings in relief with one hit and one strikeout to get the win, with Reid Sturn and Remington O’Keefe each tossing additional relief innings.

The Blazers took the nightcap 10-5, making the most of 13 walks issued by Walla Walla’s pitching staff. James Nelson had a hit and drove in a run, while Bennett Comes hit a double and knocked in three runs.

Camdyn Martindale started and got the win in 5 ⅓ innings of work, allowing two earned runs and striking out three. 

“This weekend was a great test of our depth as a team,” Harley said. “Many guys are getting the chance to step up in big situations for the team.”

Centralia hosted Yakima Valley for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
