Trojans rout Three Rivers Christian

The Pe Ell boys basketball team did things with defense first, and then pulled away with offense in a 65-18 drubbing of Three Rivers Christian at home to open 1B Columbia Valley league play Tuesday.

“Any time you hold a team under 20 is a good defensive night,” Pe Ell coach Chris Phelps said. “Offensively we struggled early finishing at the rim, but were able to come out in the second quarter and overcome some easy missed shots early.”

The defensive effort began by keeping the Eagles of the scoreboard for the entirety of the first quarter, though the Trojans (1-3) only built up a 9-0 lead in that span.

Pe Ell found its offense and the separation it needed in the second quarter, going on a 20-6 run to make it a 23-point game by halftime.

Calan McCarty led the Trojans with 12 points, while Kohl Perkins and Eli Mason both ended with 11.

All 10 Trojans that suited up scored at least two points.

Pe Ell will hit the road for some rivalry action Thursday, taking on Willapa Valley in Menlo.
