Pe Ell sophomore Blake Howard scored a team-high 16 points to go with six steals and the Trojans ended a two-game losing streak with a 54-47 road victory over Ocosta on Saturday in non-league action.

The Trojans trailed 14-10 after one quarter after a tough start shooting-wise.

“We got good looks, we just couldn’t finish,” Pe Ell coach Chris Phelps said.

But the Trojans steadied themselves in the second quarter and ripped off an 18-5 run to pull away for good and hold on for the win.

“We settled in our zone attack and the kids started seeing things the coaches are seeing,” Phelps said. “We were finally able to execute in our zone. That was a huge contribution for us.”

Michael Morales and Wyatt Marrs each added nine points for the Trojans, while Aaiden Lee tallied eight, Jesse Zard chipped in seven and Carter Phelps finished with four points and a team-high six rebounds.

“We had a pretty balanced attack offensively,” Chris Phelps said.

Pe Ell (3-3, 0-1 CVL) hosts rival Willapa Valley in a Columbia Valley League matchup on Wednesday.
