Fueled by three players with a perfect service percentage and just six total serving errors, the Pe Ell High School volleyball team battled all the way to the end against Ocosta and prevailed 25-13, 15-25, 25-19, 25-27, 15-8 on Wednesday night.
The fourth set ended up being the longest with the Trojans having a shot to win their home opener, but the Wildcats pulled out a thriller to force a deciding fifth set. Pe Ell left little doubt to claim the victory.
“We had some trouble when they found some holes in our defense, but we were able to make the adjustments and the girls just went to work,” Trojans head coach Jill Engel said. “Positive attitudes and persistence were key to our victory.”
Both sides had dominance in the opening two sets, then Pe Ell won a competitive third set to seize control. Senior Brookelynn King registered 16 assists while Madi Engel and Karli Phelps each notched 10 kills.
Peyton Zock and Sophia Milanowski combined for 12 blocks in dominating the net. Pe Ell will host NW Christian (Lacey) on Thursday.
