Two adults and a 10-year-old were killed early Thursday when a semitruck crashed into a vehicle on Interstate 90 near the Snoqualmie Pass summit, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A female passenger, 36, and a 6-year-old were injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center and Kittitas Valley Hospital.
The Washington Department of Transportation reported the eastbound I-90 closure, 11 miles east of the summit, shortly before 2 a.m. The road reopened nearly 12 hours later, after an extensive investigation that included the use of police drones, WSDOT said. The semi was towed from a ditch along the road.
State Patrol said the semitruck was traveling westbound, west of Cle Elum, when it crossed the median and struck a Kia Optima traveling eastbound.
The male Kia driver, 40, and the child died at the scene, WSP said. A female passenger, 27, died at a hospital, WSP said.
The Kia driver and passengers, from Yakima, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision, according to WSP. The semitruck driver, 43, from Pasco, Franklin County, was not injured.
The investigation continues.
