A Snoqualmie juvenile detention center had yet another escape on Sunday evening.

Two people incarcerated at Echo Glen Children's Center escaped but were found later Sunday night, according to the Snoqualmie Police Department. Officers and King County sheriff's deputies had asked residents to secure their homes during the search.

Details about the escapees' identities, how they got out and where they were located were not immediately available.

Seven teenagers escaped from Echo Glen earlier this year after attacking a staff member and stealing her keys. According to the union representing Echo Glen employees, that could have been prevented were it not for staffing shortages and lack of training. Four of the seven inmates were later charged as adults in connection with the escape.

The Department of Children, Youth and Families said at the time that Echo Glen would conduct a review and look for any needed changes. The facility received $8 million in state funding this year to support security upgrades, including a perimeter fence.

Five teenagers escaped in January 2022 after attacking staff members and stealing a state-owned vehicle.

Afterward, the detention center tightened security. Employees were given electric carts instead of cars to drive around, and incarcerated children in maximum security were required to wear orange jumpsuits.

Despite the added precautions, another incarcerated child escaped in April 2022. They were taken back into custody shortly after.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity near the detention center is asked to call 911.
