After three quarters of back-and-forth action, the Mossyrock girls basketball team pulled away in the fourth to top Onalaska 49-44 on Monday.
The Loggers (4-4, 1-2 C2BL) jumped out to a six-point lead after a quarter, but the Vikings (4-4, 2-0 1B Columbia Valley) slowly chipped away over the second and third.
The Mossyrock defense allowed just four points in the second quarter, and the Vikings trailed by just two entering the fourth quarter.
In the final frame, Delaney Marshall scored nine of her game-high 20 points to help the Vikings take the lead for good in the game’s final minutes.
“Our defensive effort was what led us tonight,” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “And shots finally started to fall in the fourth.”
Marshall also swiped five steals, Adyson Barrows scored 10 points, and Abbie Lovan led the team with 10 rebounds.
Emalie Jacoby led the Loggers with 16 points, and she also tallied five rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Jaycee Kinsman scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.
“Mossyrock outplayed us down the stretch,” Onalaska coach Alana Olson said. “We had some good moments tonight, but we have to learn how to play more consistently all four quarters.”
The Loggers head to Morton on Wednesday to take on Morton-White Pass, while the Vikings are off until after Christmas. They’ll return to the floor against Adna at the Mount Vernon Christian Holiday Tournament on Dec. 28.
