More than 100 people walked through the streets of Chehalis Tuesday to raise funds for local breast cancer fighters and survivors through the Lewis County Breast Cancer Support Group.

Organized by the Lewis County Wellness Committee and the Lewis County Sheriff's Office Association, the second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk took place during the widely recognized Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

During the poker-themed event, walkers could opt for either a 1-or 2-mile course while collecting playing cards on the way, with prizes awarded to the walker with the highest hand at the end.

“In addition to supporting Breast Cancer Awareness, the Lewis County Wellness Committee hopes this Poker Run/Walk will promote individual wellness and encourage employee engagement,” a flier for the event said.

According to the White House, more than four million breast cancer survivors live in the United States.

“This National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let us each recommit to doing our part to give more support, hope and care to patients, families and survivors of breast cancer. Let us rise above party and politics and unite as Americans to help all of our loved ones struggling with this terrible disease,” President Joe Biden wrote in a presidential proclamation. “And let us strengthen our resolve together as a nation to end cancer as we know it — for all the lives we have lost and all those we can still save.”
