The Rochester softball team ended its five-game skid Saturday, jumping ahead early and beat Black Hills 8-2 in 2A EvCo play.

Kaylei Clark took her turn in the circle to start for the Warriors and retired six of the first seven batters she faced. In the third, she issued a pair of one-out, bases-loaded walks, and Courtney Baird turned to Layna Demers out of the bullpen. Rochester’s ace got the Warriors out of the jam with a pop-out and a strikeout, and went on to throw four more shutout frames, allowing just one hit in a 14-out save.

Jessa Jenzi went 2 for 2 with two walks, a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored to lead the Warriors. Clark and Kassidy Byrd both knocked two-baggers of their own.

Zoe Theophilus gave up eight runs in six innings for Black Hills, though five errors in the field behind her made it so that only three were earned. She and Madi Malone had the Wolves’ two hits in the game.

Rochester is set to dip out of league play with a trip to Kirkland to take on Lake Washington on Monday. Black Hills will stay at home, hosting Aberdeen in another 2A EvCo tilt.
