Warriors run all over Buccaneers to earn first win

The Rochester football team had another fantastic day on the ground and bounced back from a Week 1 loss with a 60-26 win over Kingston on Friday.

The Warriors ran rampant out of the gate, quickly taking a 14-0 lead and stretching it to 34-6 before halftime.

Four different Warriors found the end zone in the first half. Mason Armstrong ran in two, Tate Quarnstrom and Carson Rotter each ran in another, and Ethan Rodriguez returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

The second half was more of the same, as Quarnstrom and Armstrong found the end zone again to extend the lead.

In the second half, Chris Tartios took his first varsity carry 75 yards, and he later punched in a one-yard score for his first varsity touchdown to extend the lead to 60-13.

As a team, the Warriors rushed for 519 yards, including four rushers with over 80. Even without one of their lead backs in Palmer Watt, the Warriors were able to top their performance from last week, one where they ran for 479 yards.

Overall, eight players carried the rock for Rochester, and Rochester coach A.J. Easley was pleased with all of them.

“It’s nice to be able to go into some depth and not have things change,” Easley said. “This week we spread it out, and all eight guys do good things.”

The Warriors will have a chance to add to their rushing totals when they open league play next Friday at Black Hills. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
