Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Washington man on Wednesday after he allegedly shot a woman in the face with a rifle while she slept in her pickup truck, officials said.

Blake Reed, 33, is accused of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary and theft of a firearm, the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Deputies arrested Reed around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday when a family member in the 4800 block of NE 49th Street in Vancouver reported that he was violating a restraining order by entering the home, adding that he was armed with a rifle taken from the home.

Reed fled in a pickup truck as deputies arrived at the scene, and the officers quickly pulled him over and arrested him.

After deputies booked Reed into jail for burglary and violation of a protection order, they received a report from a local hospital that the truck Reed was driving belonged to a woman who was being treated there for a gunshot wound to the face, sheriff’s officials said.

Sheriff’s detectives spoke to the woman and learned that she had been in a “dating relationship” with Reed before he allegedly shot her in the face with a .22 caliber rifle while she slept in her truck, sheriff’s officials said. The bullet entered her cheek and lodged in her jaw but she is expected to survive.

Detectives found and reviewed surveillance footage of the shooting and saw that a man fired a single shot through the driver’s side window, sheriff’s officials said.

Sheriff’s officials say the investigation is ongoing.
