Six people killed in a wreck Sunday on Tacoma's Tideflats were from Arizona, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The victims all were riding in a 2012 Kia that collided with a 2021 BMW X7 at State Route 509 and Alexander Avenue East about 11:17 a.m. Sunday. Those killed were:
A 21-year-old man from Phoenix survived the crash and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment, troopers said. He was in critical condition Sunday evening.
Two people in the BMW, a 42-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Tacoma, also were taken to St. Joseph for treatment.
It is unknown if any of the nine people involved in the crash were wearing a seat belt, according to the news release.
Troopers said the Kia was east on Alexander Avenue when it crossed into the northbound lanes of Route 509 and was hit by the BMW, which was traveling north on the highway.
The State Patrol asked witnesses, especially those with dash-cam video, to come forward to help with the investigation. People with information regarding the collision or the persons or vehicles involved are asked to contact detective Michael Pry at 360-827-1401.
