On March 3, beginning at 8 a.m., the Fairway Lanes bowling alley in Centralia will be opening its doors for the fourth annual “We Love Animals and Hate Cancer” benefit bowling tournament and silent auction, according to tournament director Ron Keller.
The Chronicle reached out to Keller on Thursday to find out more about the tournament and how to get involved. Keller, 66, has been bowling since he was 6 years old, and is a part of the Lewis County Bowling Association, which is helping organize the event.
The “We Love Animals and Hate Cancer” bowling tournament will be held at Fairway Lanes, located at 1501 S. Gold St. in Centralia, with doors opening at 8 a.m. and the tournament set to begin at 9.
“It’s mixed doubles,” Keller said. “It’s $96 to (register) for doubles … or $48 to do one.”
Those registering by themselves will be randomly paired with a partner to make a team. There is no deadline to register, but spots on teams are first-come, first-served, and those registering the day of the tournament will only be able to do so if team spots are still available.
According to Keller, this tournament benefits both the Red Rose Animal Rescue in Rochester and the Providence Cancer Fund.
“Last year, we raised over $6,000,” Keller added.
Organizers are still accepting donations of items for the silent auction along with sponsorship opportunities. A donation of $100 or more will get the donor a banner hung above a lane at Fairway Lanes.
Those interested in donating or registering to bowl can pick up forms to do so at Fairway Lanes. Checks must be made payable to the Lewis County Bowling Association.
