A wildfire burning in timberland in the remote southwest corner of Lewis County has “grown significantly” over the last 24 hours, Lewis County Emergency Management stated in an update Thursday night.

The Huckleberry Ridge Fire has burned about 150 to 200 acres near the border of Lewis, Pacific and Wahkiakum counties as of the latest estimate on Thursday evening.

There are currently no threats to residents.

The fire is progressing to the southeast, according to incident command. Two helicopters and two scooper planes were being used to battle the blaze Thursday.

The Western Washington Type 3 Incident Management Team is expected to take over command of the fire later this week.

“There will be A LOT of fire apparatus moving through the area for a bit,” Lewis County Emergency Management stated. “They have to drive quite a distance to reach the fire (through Pe Ell), so please give them space while they travel back and forth.”

The cause of the fire, which began on Wednesday, has not been announced. The land where the fire is burning is owned by Weyerhaeuser.
